Alone at Night

Elizabeth Tabian-Sosin

"Once upon a midnight dreary, as I pondered weak and weary..."

These are the words of Edgar Allen Poe.

All I can think of is you as I lay here alone.

"Nevermore!" cried the Raven.

I think he was referring to me and you.

We can never be together.

Will you ever love me?

I think I agree with the Raven,

So I say "Nevermore!"

How I wish you could love,

But it is only you that you love.

I can only show my love the best I can,

But you don't hear or see my efforts.

The golden bells, bells, bells,

Will never chime for us.

Only the bells, bells, bells of death will ring out,

For I am dead without you.

"Nevermore!" cried the Raven,

Then the night was still.
