Alpha Protocol Does Not Impress

Alpha Protocol Has a Lot of Features but is Way to Glitchy

Does Alpha Protocol really pack a punch? This first person shooter has a little bit of everything but doesn't hold it all together. In Alpha Protocol you play as a secret agent that is sent to investigate a terrorist group, but things start getting more complicated right away. It is a like a mix of Metal Gear Solid, Assassin's Creed, and Dues Ex. The player has a lot of choices when it comes to dialog. lt is unique in the sense that conversations have lots of options, and many times you have to pay attention to the detail in the conversation. It's like Mass Effect 2 in the way that you can just choose to do something rash during a conversation such as break a class or just shoot the person if you're trying to get information. The dialog choices really add a new kind of depth to the game when it comes to first person shooters.

Alpha protocol is like Assassin's Creed in the sense that you can do a variety of moves in close combat. It's like Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell because you have to use your environment to your advantage and often stealth is needed in missions. It's like Mass Effect 2 in the sense that you level up and can allocate skills. The best feature though of the game is that you have lots of choices which have all kinds of effects throughout the game.

However, having said all this though the game also has lots of shortcomings. It's glitchy, messed up camera angles, and bad artificial intelligence. So it is difficult to really play the game, and that's kind of important right? Another bad quality of the game is that the graphics aren't really amazing. By the looks of it you would think that the game came out a few years ago.

Alpha Protocol tries to do a lot of interesting things, and if you are a big RPG fan you may find it interesting. As far as playability goes though this game is really not that great, and most gamers will find it unrewarding due to the bad AI, glitches, and the clumsy gameplay. So the overall conclusion is that Alpha Protocol is worth a pass with an overall score of 6/10.
