DIY: Safari Alphabet Birthday Party Invitations
To set the birthday theme, begin by creating personalized party invitations using the safari ABC theme. Enlist your toddler's help with the design. Choose one or more safari animals to be the invitation shape. For example, let's say your toddler loves giraffes. Use a giraffe silhouette to cut out the party invitations from orange cardstock. Draw a few random circles on the body that your toddler can color with brown crayon. To tie in the alphabet theme, draw the ABCs along the edges of the animal's body.
Add a title to the top of the card. For instance, you could write "Come to an Alphabet Safari to Celebrate Johnny's 3rd Birthday!"
Next, fill in the party details in the middle of the card. Be sure to cut the card into a size that can fit into an envelope if you're going to be mailing the invitations.
DIY: Alphabet Safari Birthday Cupcakes
Cupcakes are a fun way for toddlers to celebrate birthdays. Bake your child's favorite cupcake flavor and have your child help you frost them. Go to your local dollar store or party store to purchase individual plastic safari animals. Add one safari animal to the top of each cupcake. Write the first initial of each guest on a cupcake using a gel-frosting pen available from the baking section at your local grocery store. You can make up extra cupcakes and just write "ABC" on the cupcake for adults or for siblings of invited children. Be sure that the gel-frosting pen contrasts enough with the frosting color so the children can read the letters.
Safari Alphabet Party Activities
Now that you've sent the invitations and have planned your alphabet safari cupcakes, you'll want to plan a few activities for the children. Keep in mind that toddlers have short attention spans so I suggest offering just one activity for about 20 minutes. The rest of the party time can be play time so be prepared for children running, jumping, and having fun. If your home or yard cannot accommodate this enthusiastic behavior, then consider renting a facility for a 90-minute window to allow enough time to play, to make the craft project, and to eat the cupcakes.
For the toddler birthday activity, consider purchasing supplies for the children to make a craft project related to the safari alphabet theme. You can make safari animals using large letters that you cut out from construction paper ahead of time. Give each child a letter to turn into a safari animal. For example, you can suggest that "E" becomes an elephant, "L" becomes a lion, or "G" becomes a giraffe. Provide crayons, paints, glitter, eyes, glue and other materials to help the children create their unique safari alphabet animals.
Enjoy celebrating this special time with your child and his or her friends. The alphabet safari birthday theme is sure to be a hit with toddlers as they love learning their ABCs in fun and creative ways.
