Altar Boyz Musical Comedy

"Altar"ing Minds in Every City

Dorian
Alter Boyz, a fresh off-Broadway musical satire, is slowly sweeping the nation and "altar"ing minds along the way. It is about a Christian boy band touring the nation, trying to break into the music industry and spreading the word of Jesus Christ through pop music, dance and of course, their charmingly boyish good looks. This hysterical social commentary mockingly weaves together the popularity of boy bands and the religious fanaticism found today into a funny and entertaining 90-minute comedy, filled with sacrilegious remarks, irreverent lyrical compositions and ungodly pelvic thrusting.

With catchy, radio-ready pop tunes, such as "The Calling," "Church Rulez" and "La Vida Eternal," Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham use their God-given gifts to croon songs that would rival any of their real-life counterparts. Their angelic voices sinfully caress the audience and entice them along for the ride. With rich harmonies and emotional solo performances, they pull at the heartstrings of even the most cynical non-believers. After listening to their glorious vocals, even devout Agnostics want to stand up and yell, "Hallelujah!"

In addition to their silky vocal seduction, the group performs high-energy dance numbers non-stop from beginning to end. The dance choreography is eerily familiar to the New Kids On The Block, 'NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys, and each emphasizes the song's lyrics and takes the audience up and down the religious rollercoaster ride. Together, the songs and dancing create bellyfuls of laughs and evoke sidesplitting memories of boy-band days gone by.

The traveling tour consists of Matthew Buckner as Matthew, Ryan J. Ratliff as Mark, Jesse JP Johnson as Luke, Jay Garcia as Juan and Ryan Strand as Abraham. Like in all boy bands, members of the group have their own distinct characters, and the actors embrace their characters in a real, yet not too over-the-top way. Matthew is the leader of the group; Mark is the creative, "sensitive" one; Luke is the bad boy/member most recently released from a wellness center due to exhaustion; Juan provides some ethnic appeal; and Abraham is the one who feels he's just a bit different. Together, with trust in each other and in the grace of God, these five boys strive to save every lost soul, one soul at a time.

So, if your soul is one that needs a little saving or you have some sins to confess, this musical comedy will lead you to deliverance. Give in to the sinfully funny Altar Boyz and take the first step toward salvation. They're "going to 'Altar' your mind."
