White light, when passed through a prism, splits into seven colors - Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. Each of them has a different wavelength and each of these colors affect different parts of our body and also the mind.
The significance of each of these seven colors in relation to the body are:
ü Violet - Denotes affection, encouragement, swiftness and attraction. It is a source of Vitamin D.
ü Indigo - Denotes gentleness, honesty and unity. It has a soothing effect on the lymphatic system and the nerves, improves stomach disorders, alleviates migraine and prevents the formation of cataract. It also controls the pituitary glands. It is a source of Vitamin K.
ü Blue - Represents the spiritual aspects of life. It controls the activities of the brain. It develops immunity of the body against, germs, poison and reduces pain.
ü Green - Is said to encourage freshness and swiftness. It is a color for providing peace and happiness and it also reduces restlessness. The color is believed to be beneficial to salesmen, businessmen, lawyers and scientists.
ü Yellow - Stands for confidence, ambition, wisdom and science. It helps ease nervousness and tiredness, improves digestion and improves skin conditions. It stimulates memory, the kidney, spleen, liver and the brain. It is a source of Vitamin A.
ü Orange - It is a very good stimulant and helps us in the times of boredom, loneliness and depression. Traditionally it denotes the color of Saints.
ü Red - Improves blood circulation, self confidence and courage. It also increases vitality and reduces anemia. It is a source of Vitamin B12.
The effect of colors can best be transmitted to the human body by the use of gemstones of different colors in the form of beads around the neck or set in silver or gold and worn as pendants or rings on the fingers. There is also a difference in the wearing of the gemstone in different fingers. Specific gems have to be worn on specific fingers. The specific gem to be worn depends on the individuals horoscope and the date of birth and his birth sign. For example, generally speaking, for those born in the month of September the birth gemstone is Blue Sapphire. The determination of which gemstone is to be worn and how it is to be worn is the subject matter of a separate form of alternate therapy known as Gem Therapy.
The use of gemstones to effect healing and bring about positive changes in the mind and the body is known as Gemstone Therapy and has in fact been followed from time memorial in India and the far East. The practice of gemstone was lost in transition but is now being rediscovered.
Gemstone Therapy is a form of alternative medicine for strengthening the body and mind and other issues using various forms of natural gemstones. The theory is that gemstones carry vibrational rates. The effects are often direct, sometimes indirect, but very potent.
Therapeutic properties of some gemstones are listed below and they are for high quantity rounded stones only. Non-rounded stones may have other effects.
1. Amazonite : Improves self worth.
2. Amber: Lifts heaviness and allows happiness to come through.
3. Amethyst: Offers spiritual upliftment.
4. Aquamarine: Reminds one of the vastness of love and mercy.
5. Aventurine: Blood circulation.
6. Green Aventurine: Inner alignment and more energy.
7. Cape Amethyst: Physical healing. Place it where healing is required.
8. Coral: Emotional foundation.
9. Diamond: Increases personal clarity and has many healing properties.
10. Emerald: Physical and Emotional healing.
11. Jade: Aids Relaxation.
12. White Moonstone: Balances the yin/yang
13. Mother Of Pearl: Protection from all kinds of ailments.
14. Opal: Gives you a broader perspective of the situation you are in.
15. Frosted Quartz: Balance and a soothing sensation.
16. Rose Quartz: Emotional balance.
17. Ruby: Love, open heart. Overcomes fear.
18. Sapphire: Mental clarity.
19. Green Tourmaline: Promotes male balance and physical healing. Not for women.
20. Pink Tourmaline: Promotes female balance and physical healing. Not for men.
Wearing "round" beads around the neck is the best way to do gemstone therapy. Intention reinforces the effect, but not necessarily.
