One of the uses for window shades around the house is as a boundary for children to play. A window shade can be unrolled and placed on the floor, then all you have to do is add toys and the child. The child can be taught that this is the place to play, especially if they are playing with items such as play-dough that can make a huge mess on a floor. On a window shade, the play dough is basically harmless. It will not hurt the window shade and can be cleaned up easily. When play time is over, roll the shade up and put it away.
Another idea for children using a window shade would be to draw, or let your child draw, streets for small cars to be played with on, such as Hot Wheels. This is fun for girls as well as boys and it will entertain the child for quite awhile. When play time is over all you have to do is roll the window shade up and store it until next time.
Window shades can become interesting crafting material. They can be used as canvas for pastel or water color painting and the fact that they roll up will keep your artwork clean. Just remember to let the artwork dry completely before you roll it up. Window shades area also perfect for covering up the crafting table to keep it protected when you are working on something that could harm it. Once again, when finished, simply roll up the window shade and store it until you need it again.
Window shades are very inexpensive and can be found at most discount stores. This makes them so economical to use for these projects and many more. You do not have to wait until you replace the ones covering your windows to try these ideas or the ones you may have come up with. All you need is a little money and a little imagination and you too can enjoy using window shades for something other than covering your windows, which they are great at too.
