Alternative Fuel Technology: Our Last Shot at Global Unity

PenPress
The 21st century is offering many scientific marvels. It is undeniable that the success of mankind has been enormous. In this age of industrialization and globalization, much of the communications can be done online, but the building block of economy still depends on physical transportation of people and goods. We heavily depend on gas to maintain the global economy, but that is about to face a screeching halt.

The rising gas price has been a worldwide problem. Directly or indirectly, all of us are getting affected by this crisis. This impact does not follow geographical boundaries. Its devastating effect has reached every corner of the world. Countless ways have been proposed by the think tank and the lawmakers without success.

People have tried running empty, taking the public transportation, and riding bicycles only to compromise productivity. There is no way this can be a long-term solution. Shifting the cost from the people to the government and private sector comes back only to haunt us as increased fares, taxes, and insurance premium. We essentially forget that we belong to the same equation. Therefore, once all the resources and lifestyle changes get exhausted, the sad realization will sink in. We cannot prevail as separate entities. All countries and groups, small or large, have to participate in a unified way for this common cause.

Soon compliance requirements for auto insurance will change. Alternative fuel technology will become a part of the basic concept alongside fuel efficiency. The auto industry will demand of its researchers to introduce smart designs, but it will not end there. Ultimate success will depend on the implementation of the strategies. Therefore, we, as the end-users, will have to educate ourselves on these topics. Only an expedited all inclusive approach can resolve the current crisis.

In the foreseeable future, which can be tomorrow or next year, we will be forced to access, assimilate, and distribute information on alternative fuel technology. We cannot afford to consider any contribution as trivial. The nations will have to get above selfishness and share technologies to yield better alternatives that we are yet to discover. It will be a global effort and all of us will voluntarily exchange information, because this time the stake is big.

The current fuel crisis will be a catalyst for all to think above nation, race and religion and work together as a united force for this common cause. Every day, billions of people will engage in that battle not only through search engines, but via emails, chats, blogs, and forums. YouTube, FaceBook, and MySpace will also play a significant role through PC and portable devices. Globally, it will be one big cohesive virtual community. It does not matter who you are, where you are or who you represent, we are in this together. I am eagerly waiting for that day when you and I will communicate with a sense of equal ownership to resolve this global crisis.

I do hope you are right, but will the oil companies agree? That is my main worry.

I don't think it's a case of sharing knowledge as much as it is the current power structure doing everything to remain in power. In this case, big oil companies doing everything to kill off alternative energy sources until they find out how they can be the ones to make money off of them. As soon as Exxon and Mobil figure out how to make as much money from "Green" sources as from oil, you can be sure that we'll see alternative sources flourish in this country.

Yes, several road blocks have been put in the way of using the technology available to us as consumers for saving energy and "gas" actually all petro chemical products. It seems that more and more pressure is being placed now on using those sources available to us. >.. favorite quote on this subject by George W Bush, "There are limits to how much corn can be used for ethanol. After all, we got to eat some." :-) Food (pun intended) for thought.

Yes Brian, that is excatly what I am saying...just having the technology doesn't help until we want to share the knowledge and also decide to educate ourselves enough to utilize it.....

We've had the technology for decades to use alternative energy sources besides fossil fuels for all kinds of purposes, including to power automobiles.

We have already made great advances in developing nuclear, thermal, solar, wind, and tidal energy, but the oil companies have effectively hindered their growth. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember reading about Henry Ford developing an electric car in the 40's with some success, but JD Rockefeller, with all that oil for sale, paid him a visit and talked him out of it (most likely by starting out by asking him "How's the family?", if ya catch my drift!)
