Alternative Meal Ideas to Serving Turkey at Thanksgiving

A Planning Guide for At-home Cooks and Host/hostesses

When people think of Thanksgiving, many decide to have a traditional turkey dinner. However, others desire a way to still enjoy a sit-down meal with family and friends, while trying other dishes during this time. Here are a few simple ideas to help with your Thanksgiving meal ideas.

Ham - While ham is a typical Easter time favourite, it is also becoming popular during Thanksgiving, with many stores offering hams on sale along with turkeys.

Poultry - From chicken, tur-duck-hen, Cornish game hens, pheasants, and other speciality poultry items, poultry seems to be a very popular item to serve during Thanksgiving. Of course, while turkey is the main staple item of Thanksgiving, people are turning to other smaller poultry items because they can cook faster due to their smaller weight.

Roast Beef - A good pot roast with vegetables is another choice of some during Thanksgiving. This is especially popular with those that do not care for stuffing, as the carrots, onions, and celery cooked with roast beef are sometimes found in stuffing. In addition to these vegetables, potatoes are also cooked with the roast beef. This meal is very popular to those who want a simplified Thanksgiving meal, as these items can all be placed in a crock pot and left to cook by themselves overnight.
