Scared at first, I soon began to be much more daring in my selection of horses. I'd choose the ones who could jump the highest and run the fastest. Those would often be the most difficult to control. I remember my favorite horse as being one which would often try to lie down on the ground and roll around with me still on it. One time, I was sitting quietly on him in the middle of the riding arena next to a jump as tall as he was. This horse decided to jump over it from a complete standstill with me grasping at anything I could to hold on. That was a really fun day.
While I had a blast heading over to the stable every day after school with my mom, I never dreamed that it would ever have any practical application to my life. However, as I look at the world now, I may have been wrong about that.
With oil prices currently soaring out of control, people can't afford to take their gas dollars for granted any more. Everyone's trying to save money, often changing their lifestyles to accomplish that goal. Average Americans are left curtailing their plans for evenings out or weekends away, and our own personal worlds seem to be getting smaller. As a result we see our once global economy returning back to its smaller, more modest roots. I'm sure people are searching for "cheap transportation" in search engines all over the county even now.
So who knows? If current trends continue, we may yet again see people riding horses like they once used to a century ago. They're cheaper to fuel, easier to maintain, and last a lot longer than cars currently do. I'd just advise going with a calm, reliable model. Unless you like being rolled off on a daily basis, that is.
