All seizures are devastating as they can be debilitating. Even one that has petit mal seizures may be unable to operate certain machinery and may have their driver's licensed revoked. Seizures can occur in any age group - young or old. At times, they may even spontaneously resolve, but more often they become a lifelong issue. Much of modern medicine's treatment is to administer a pharmaceutical that will "manage" the problem - usually with some rather nasty side-effects.
The important questions to consider are: why did the brain decide to seize up and what are the causes? By answering these questions, only then can we find a proper therapy to manage seizures and to stop them from reoccurring.
The brain is a dynamic structure and is constantly receiving information from the rest of the body - the "periphery." This information enters the brain and is sorted, filtered, and responded to in an appropriate fashion. Some information carries greater force and power and will yield more powerful responses, especially emotions. Emotions are energy that not only involve the neural tissues of the brain, but also trigger the release of neuropeptides that allow the body to "feel" the emotion. In reality, every cell of the body can "feel" the effects of an emotion. If an emotional response becomes too powerful for the brain to handle, it will cause a "shutdown" and "reboot" of the system - in other words, a seizure can be a violent manner in which the brain can attempt to shut off an emotional response in a physical manner.
Each individual that has come to my clinic for treatment of seizures has had a significant amount of emotional stress near the onset of the seizures. As the body attempts to find a healthy manner to deal with the stress of the emotional situation, the brain eventually gives up hope and seizes, causing a petit mal or a grand mal seizure. Some individuals, after having one seizure, may never experience another; other individuals have multiple seizures that become chronic.
The treatment of emotions can be a powerful experience. Emotions make us unique and emotions allow us to interact and feel our surroundings. Emotions are thoughts with feelings. Emotions are the link between our body and our mind. As emotions become unhealthy and get "stuck" within the confines of the body, the body sets up a state of chronic programming (similar to Pavlov's experiment with the dogs and the bell). This programming is automatic and the responses become automatic. Eventually, this individual will have emotional "triggers" that set off physical events in the body. In some, these physical events are seizures.
Emotions are like water and blood - they need to flow. Blood that stops flowing will clot. Water that stops flowing will go stagnate, rotten, and will attract pests. Emotions that are "stuck" cause physical damage. Properly releasing emotions and allowing them to flow keeps our mind, body, and spirit healthy. Utilizing Neuro Emotional Technique (NET), a practitioner can successfully eliminate the automatic programmed responses of the body and allow emotions to flow once again.
I have witnessed miracles with emotional healing - those that have suffered with numerous ailments, including seizures, have experienced a complete reversal of their condition. For those with seizures, the effects of healing the emotional "triggers" to their seizures can be life altering!
