Pneumonia is more than a cold it is an infection. Since pneumonia is an infection medical treatments are mandatory but there are a host of alternative treatments that can help fight pneumonia. There are a number of vitamins that can help fight pneumonia. The first one is vitamin A. Vitamin A will help strengthen the tissue that lines the lungs helping to fight pneumonia. To get the maximum effect from the vitamin, take between 25,000 to 50,000 ius a day of the liquid form of vitamin A for the first 3 to 5 days that you are sick. Then reduce the dosage to 10,000 to 25,000 ius a day until the symptoms are gone. Since this is a high dosage be sure to check with your doctor and take under your doctor's supervision.

A combination of vitamins C and E will help to destroy free radicals that develop in your body when it fights infections. Under the supervision of your doctor, take 5,000 to 15,000 mgs of vitamin C daily but take it in divided doses every two to three hours a day. Take 400 to 800 ius of vitamin E and 500 mgs of bioflavonoids daily to help boost the effectiveness of vitamin C. Bromelain is a great boost for antibiotics like vitamin C and E. Bromelain is a digestive enzyme that helps smooth out mucus build up by thinning it. Take 250 to 500 mgs of Bromelain three times a day until your symptoms subside.

Taking a packet of Bioprothymic A everyday to help the body produce more T cells will help fight infections that cause pneumonia and boost the immune system. There are a number of herbs that offer alternative treatments to fight pneumonia. The first is Goldenseal, which helps the immune system destroy the germs that cause the bacteria that produces pneumonia. Take the following treatment to use goldenseal - 1:5 dilution, 6 to 12 milliliters, fluid extract in a 1:1 dilution, 2 to 4 milliliters, and capsules or tablets, 500 to 2000 mg. Next, Echinacea increases the immune fighting ingredients in your body to help fight pneumonia and strengthen your system. Take one tablet three times a day of this herb.

Shiitake and Maitake, which are Japanese mushrooms, are powerful immune system boosters that can help fight pneumonia. Take the shiitake in liquid form and add a dropper of it to a bowl of soup once a day. Maitake can be taken in capsule, extract, or tea form. Although antibiotics are great and needed to help fight off infections to enhance your immune system by destroying bad bacteria that can produce pneumonia, antibiotics can also destroy good bacteria in your digestive system that your body needs. To prevent antibiotics from destroying the good bacteria, take probiotics.

Take the probiotics that have Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum. Take one to three teaspoons everyday of the powdered probiotic supplement mixed with lemon juice or warm water on an empty stomach. You can also take one to three tablets of the supplement on an empty stomach. Be sure the tablets contain 500 million live of acidophilus and 250 million live of bifidum bacteria.
