Alternative Uses for Cooking Spray

Lori Piper
Have you done your holiday baking shopping yet? Of course, you have. Today as I was preparing to make grape nut bread for friends and family, I noticed that I have three cans of cooking spray. (The mind tends to become forgetful during this time) and I began to wonder what else I can I use cooking spray for, since, after all, I had three cans.

Alternate uses for cooking spray- say cheese

Spritz some cooking spray along your cheese grater the next time you grate cheese. The cheese will not stick and it makes for easy clean up.

Alternate uses for cooking spray- the thing that makes sliced bread so perfect

Spray a little on your knife the next time you go to slice bread. It helps slice straight and keep the edges from becoming jagged. Additionally, spray some on your knife the next time you go to slice and cut brownies or fudge and even hard boiled eggs.

Alternate uses for cooking spray- pretty as a picture

Many of us have time to give ourselves an at home manicure, but what we do not always have time for is adequate nail drying time. Spritz some cooking spray over your polished nails and they will dry faster.

Alternate uses for cooking spray- stain lifter

Are you tired of seeing your Tupperware and plastic containers have pasta stains on the inside? Next time before you sour the leftovers in a plastic container, spray the inside with cooking spray first. Stain lifter after a while for the past stains and stain resistant for future stains.

Alternate uses for cooking spray- squeak no more

Spray cooking spray wherever you have a squeaky door hinge. It works just like a lubricant the same as WD40. No more squeaks.

Alternate uses for cooking spray- think healthy

Rather than pour cooking oil in your pot when you are cooking rice or pasta, spray cooking spray along the bottom and the sides. It works just as well and is healthier to boot.

Alternate uses for cooking spray- bugs be gone

Spray cooking spray on the grill of your car to rid the car of dead bugs that tend to accrue no matter how often you wash and wax your car. The cooking spray makes the removal of them much easier and quicker.

Alternate uses for cooking spray- go fish!

The next time you go fishing, take along a can of cooking spray (if you are like me, you have an extra can!). Coat your fishing line before you cast and the line with cast further and quicker.

Cooking spray can also be used to remove those stubborn adhesive leftovers when you remove store prices, first-aid adhesive tape, and such. Very cool ideas here!
