Alternative Valentine's Celebration

Give More Love Outside

Valentine's Day 2010 falls on a Sunday. Since it is a weekend, I am sure that all romantic places are full of lovers who want to make the day special for their loved one.

This year is going to be a different one for us. We now have our first and only darling baby girl so we have to consider her before making arrangements. And we thought that going out on a Sunday may not be ideal for us because for one, our worship service is in the afternoon and ends around 6:30pm. Then we have to put our baby's needs first and then go out. Yet we have to be back early because we have to put her to sleep again. So my husband and I thought that it is not a good idea.

So we thought of celebrating Valentine's Day either before or after February 14. My husband thinks that the best day would be February 15, which falls on a Monday. So we will be going out, go to the movies, and then eat.

But there is also one thing that we would like to do-that is to take out another couple and treat them to a Pre-Valentine dinner. We thought of doing this because we know of another couple who had been so cooped up lately because of the new baby in the house. We are in the same predicament, so we thought of ministering to them and treating them.

Although we will also spend time with each other, I think it is also nice to consider other people, like other married couples, who are also struggling in their marriage. We are here to help each other and it would be good to remember others as we celebrate Valentine's Day. So instead of just focusing on ourselves, why not enlarge our bubble and include other people? After all, Valentine's is about love, not just love for your lover, but love for other people as well.

May you all have a wonderful Valentine's celebration!
