Alternative Ways to Celebrate Halloween

Not every child in the USA will have the opportunity to go door to door trick or treating this year. Some adults as well as children love to dress up for Halloween too. What alternative ways are there to celebrate Halloween without the traditional door to door trick or treating that most people are accustomed to? Let's look at a few of them.

Since this years Halloween falls on a Friday (October 31, 2008) it provides for a later bedtime for many youngsters and adults. With this in mind having a private at home costume party for a few friends watching scary movies might be in order. For the kids it might turn into a sleepover. Making ghoulish looking foods and treats for the party will make for some interesting recipes.

Going to the movies in full costume always makes for an interesting Halloween. If you are adult you can treat yourself and a friend or two to the latest release of the "Saw" movie series. For those of you with less than a strong stomach you can choose another less gory movie. Often many movie theaters will have Halloween movie festivals just for Halloween night.

If you have a roller skating rink or bowling alley in your town they often have Halloween parties and specials on the haunted night. Shopping malls have been handing out treats to kids in costume for many years now and some of the malls now have costume contests.

Haunted house and corn field tours are always a big hit. Most of the haunted houses and attractions have been running for weeks prior to Halloween night and Halloween is the last big day for them.

If you live out in the country where the weather is good that night, start a campfire and snuggle down with a blanket. Call a few friends over and tell spooky stories around the camp fire. Find out about a few local legends and intertwine them into your tall tales.

Halloween need no longer be a time of walking around the neighborhood and dealing with a child's sugar high after the event. There are many alternative ways to celebrate Halloween.
