Alternatives to Candy Halloween Treats

Beverly Nowlin
Halloween is fast approaching and no doubt mothers everywhere are trying to figure out alternatives to candy that they can pass out to the neighborhood ghouls who will be visiting on Halloween Night. Luckily, there are inexpensive alternatives available.

1. Stickers are a great alternative for children. Stop by your local Dollar Tree and stock up on princess, Barbie, Spiderman, Superman and truck stickers. When you get home, cut the sticker sheets into slips with 2-3 stickers on them. Divide the girlie stickers from the boy stickers and you are all set.

2. Similar to stickers, temporary tattoos are a huge hit. They can be found almost anywhere and come in a variety of designs. You can order them in bulk online at www.Tattoos4Kids.com.

3. What kid doesn't love money that they can spend on their own choice of treats? Hand out baggies of ten pennies, or three dimes, or whatever you feel comfortable giving. The kids can add it to their piggy bank when they get home and you won't have to wade through the candy aisle at the local Wal-Mart.

4. Glow sticks are cheap and will even help the child be seen better while he or she is out trick-or-treating.

5. Pencils and fun erasers can be bought cheaply at the Dollar Tree also. They'll have fun at school the following week playing with their new erasers and Mom won't be worried about tooth decay.

Those are just a few ideas for alternatives to candy. You can find more at The Corporation For National and Community Service website.
