Flossing is important because buildup between teeth can become nasty plaque, bad breath and decay. Most dentists recommend that you floss twice per day. I am not sure how many people actually adhere to this rule. I myself am lucky if I floss once per day, but I do try!
Water Pic
Water pics are a genius invention! This is my favorite dental device! The water pic is a dental tool that uses a stream of thinly forced water to rinse out the mouth, teeth and along the gum lines. This is very beneficial for everyone. Even kids. I highly suggest a water pic personally! They are great to use. Comfortable and your gums will be healthy. They are especially ideal for those who have gums that bleed easily. Also if you suffer from pockets in your gums this can be a much better option than flossing.
Flossing Brush
There are various brushes on the market that are for cleaning between teeth. These are ideal for those who have overcrowded teeth or just don't like floss. These are much more comfortable in my opinion because there is no pulling. Especially if you have crowded teeth. These brushes have bristles that fit between the teeth and make it easy to clean. I still prefer the water pic over flossing brushes.
Pics
Dental pics can be used such as tooth picks. Also there are dental pics available which are small disposable pics that do have a small piece of floss on the top but they are not used the same exact way as floss. These are pretty easy to use but I find them wasteful. But they are good for traveling and when you are at work. They really aren't something you want to reuse either. I think dental pics and toothpicks are my last resort. As in if I had nothing else to floss with! I don't find the pics or wooden toothpicks comfortable in the least, but that's just me.
I really like the water pic best when it comes to flossing alternatives. You will have to try the different methods and choose for yourself which will work best for your teeth.
Whatever method you choose it's important to try to remove food between teeth on a daily basis. It's also a good idea to have your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year.
