Alternatives Versus Brand Names

When I go shopping, some things are best "name brand." Oreos for instance, just do not seem to taste the same by any other company. However, when it comes to name brands, are most of them for show or for real?

The name brand is what is sold to us on TV, radio, and through advertisements. We assume name brands are better because they are in front of our eyes consistently. "Off brands" do not have the same buying power as name brands, but many are just as well performing.

On a shopping trip to Aldi Supermarkets this week I pleasantly found that they had many alternatives to popular items that I buy at regular supermarkets. 100 calorie packs, and healthier options were plentiful in this discount grocer, and, to my enjoyment, most tasted just as good, or better, than their name brand competitors. More companies are offering off brands, and many places are opening stores specifically to sell these lesser priced, equal quality, items.

This goes the same for clothing. I have spent lots of money on name brand bras, and certain other clothing items. I have not found many that are completely superior to one another. Some do wear slightly better, but it is worth spending nearly double on those items in order to have it last a bit longer? Price comparison is very important when it comes to making these decisions.

More and more alternative brands are becoming popular due to the stressed economic times. These items are cheaper, and many times offer matching quality products. Coupon cutting can help to lower prices on the name brand items, but you can usually get the off brands for the same price without taking the time to cut coupons or look for specials. Alternative products can help us lessen our spending budgets and become more financially efficient.

Next time you are out shopping, consider alternative brands to name brands. In tough economic times, it is important to give up the materialistic standards, and embrace the ever increasingly popular alternatives that are available to us.

There are only a few alternative brands I avoid. We definitely use plenty of them, though. It saves on our budget - and plenty!
