If you're in the mood for Mexican food with a vegan spin in Syracuse, New York, look no further than Alto Cinco. Not only are the prices reasonable and the food plentiful and tasty, but Alto Cinco guarantees that no lard or MSG is used in the creation of its food.

Hours of Operation

Alto Cinco has very reasonable hours, open from 11 A.M. to 11 P.M. seven days a week. In addition to their dining room, they also offer a take-out service during the same hours Monday-Saturday and until 10 P.M. on Sundays and they offer delivery from 5 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. every day.

Prices

Alto Cinco's prices are extremely reasonable, especially when taking into consideration the large portions which come with the entrees. Appetizers range in price from $2.50 for a bowl of chips to $11 for fresh calamari. Entrees range from $6 for a cheese quesadilla to $14 for a grilled shrimp burrito, with most of the entrees settling around the $9 to $11 range.

Menu Options

Alto Cinco not only offers commonplace "Mexican" items like burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas, but also offers uncommon items like a catfish dinner. They also offer at least one vegetarian or vegan variety of every one of their main menu items, even going so far as to offer a BBQ Tofu Burrito, something you won't find at your everyday Mexican restaurant. Their normal menu items are augmented with their "special menu," which includes seasonal items like fresh halibut and non-seasonal specials such as their eggplant vegan quesadilla. In addition to the wide variety of food options, Alto Cinco also offers a variety of wines, bottled drinks, and local, domestic, and imported beers.

As far as quality goes, Alto Cinco's food is top notch. Everything from their chips to their side of cornbread, from their quesadillas to their specials, I have never encountered a bad dish at Alto Cinco. Their chicken is high quality, and their vegan and vegetarian dishes are sometimes just as tasty as their meat-based items.

Atmosphere

Alto Cinco's primary detraction is the lack of dining room seating. Approximately six or seven tables are found around a small bar, and during evening hours it's not uncommon to have to wait for a table. Also, because they only have a few people working at any given time, it's also not uncommon to have to wait a little bit after placing an order for the food to arrive.

Location/Parking

Alto Cinco can be found at 526 Westcott Street in Syracuse, New York, in what is commonly known as the "Westcott Area." Metered parking can be found along Westcott street and residential areas found around Westcott offer on-street parking. The only nearby attraction besides other restaurants is the Westcott Theater, which offers a lineup of concerts ranging from indie rock to popular hip-hop.

Overall Impression

For local Mexican food with a special spin, Alto Cinco is one of the best in Syracuse. With good prices, large portions, and unbeatably delicious food, Alto Cinco is an all-around great place to go out to eat. Just be careful, if you eat there once, you might find yourself craving it every night!
