I refuse to say certain words
In respect to your religion
Although I may not share in your beliefs
I do not degrade them
In such a manner offensive to you
Yet that is exactly
How I am treated by you
Maybe you are just so perfect
That the very cardinal rule
Of your belief system
"Do unto others..."
Does not apply to you
How perfect you are, oh dear one
Your whole being is a fallacy
Maybe I am, in actuality,
The magnanimous one
In respect to your religion
Although I may not share in your beliefs
I do not degrade them
In such a manner offensive to you
Yet that is exactly
How I am treated by you
Maybe you are just so perfect
That the very cardinal rule
Of your belief system
"Do unto others..."
Does not apply to you
How perfect you are, oh dear one
Your whole being is a fallacy
Maybe I am, in actuality,
The magnanimous one

Post a Commentthis resonates with me. i am a spiritual person. i, too, have been condemned--by people of my own faith. these days, i'm beginning to realize that all faiths are the same. some people feel so guilty, they have to condemn others to make themselves feel better. (i speak from personal experience--i used to be the same way.) i've realized that God is Love--nothing else. any religious rules that are not based in love of our fellow man are null and void. i love the people that have condemned me. i forgive them. i just choose to distance myself from them.
Great Poem - so well said.
