Prosecutor Mignini early on devised a theory that had no basis in evidence. His theory was that three persons had tried to engage British student Meredith in a drugs-and-sex orgy. She refused; they killed her. However, Carlo Torre, a pathologist who has performed more than 6,000 post mortems, believes one person only committed the murder. And there was one man whose DNA was found inside Meredith's body as well within the crime scene- Rudy Guédé, who was convicted of Meredith's murder in December 2008 and was sentenced to thirty years.
Because Amanda's story is at best confusing, convoluted, and lengthy- and at worst, full of news media inaccuracies and police lies- this threadbare account of the activity surrounding Kercher's murder on November 1 2007 is based directly on Amanda's full account, which witnesses can corroborate.
Amanda was 20 when she came to the Umbrian hilltop town of Perugia, Italy in August 2009 for a three-month stay while she studied at the University for Foreigners. She rented a room in a cottage. Four Italian men (ages 22-26) rented the downstairs. Amanda, Meredith, and two other young women rented the upstairs. Amanda met Raffaele Sollecito, 23, at a classical-music concert in mid-October 2007. They began dating.
The murder of British student Meredith Kercher, 21, occurred on November 1 2007. Just two days before Amanda was arrested for the murder, November 4 2007, Amanda had written an e-mail directed to family and friends in a consolidated response to their questions. What you are about to read is a faithful representation of Amanda's e-mail in a concise form and written in the third person. Her e-mail of course was written in the first person. Anything in brackets is a note from the author.
Amanda and Raffaele last saw Meredith alive on the afternoon of November 1 2007 at the cottage. After lunch, Amanda played the guitar. Meredith left the cottage. After a while, Amanda and Raffaele went to his apartment, just five minutes away, to have dinner, smoke marijuana, watch movies, and spend the night. The next morning, after 10:30, Amanda went home to take a shower, pick up a change of clothes, and get a mop for cleaning up a large water spill at Raffaele's.
Upon reaching the cottage, Amanda saw the door was wide open. Because the door was broken and thus blew open easily, she and her seven roommates, also her friends, always locked it shut, unless taking out the trash or briefly talking to a neighbor. Thinking either was the case, even though she felt something was odd, Amanda entered the cottage and closed the door, without locking it. She went upstairs and called out. No one answered.
Two doors were open- her own and Laura's. Two doors were closed- Filomena's and Meredith's. As later found out, Filomena was not home. Nor were the four men downstairs. Amanda said she assumed Meredith was asleep. She went to her own room and undressed. In the closer of two bathrooms on her floor, she took a shower. After she stepped out and dried her feet on a mat, she noticed blood on the mat and then also in the sink and smeared on the faucet. She found the blood strange but thought Meredith might be having 'menstrual issues' and atypically had not yet cleaned up.
Amanda went to her room to dress. Then, she went to the other bathroom used by her other two roommates to use their hairdryer. She dried her hair. As she was putting away the dryer, she saw feces in the toilet. No one in her household had ever left a toilet unflushed. Feeling uncomfortable, Amanda grabbed a mop, walked outside the cottage, locked the door, and returned to Raffaele's place.
After mopping up the large water spill, Amanda and Raffaele ate breakfast as she told him what she had seen at home- the door wide open, the blood in the bathroom, the feces left in the toilet. Amanda then called her roommates. At 12:07pm [this time as with the other named times were verified by cell phone records], she called Meredith's UK cell phone. At 12:08pm, she called Filomena, who verified she had spent the night with her boyfriend and also that Laura was in Rome. Filomena seemed worried. Meredith was left unaccounted for.
At 12:11pm, Amanda called Meredith's Italian phone. At 12:11pm still, she called Meredith's UK phone again- this time, a voice said the phone was out of service. Amanda was unaware that a woman had found Meredith's two cell phones this morning in a garden about a hundred yards from the cottage and had called the Postal Police (aka The Flying Squad), who are in charge of Communications.
Amanda returned to her cottage with Raffaele. She unlocked the door. The living room/ kitchen seemed okay. She opened Filomena's door and saw the room was a mess and a window was broken. She was surprised Filomena's computer was untouched. Certain that theft had occurred, she entered Laura's room. All was in order.
Amanda went to the area of house that she shared with Meredith. She checked her own room for theft but nothing was missing. She then rapped on Meredith's door. When there was no response, she knocked louder and then louder until she was banging on the door and shouting Meredith's name.
In a panic, Amanda dashed to the terrace but could not see over the ledge and into Meredith's room. She rushed into Filomena's bathroom. The feces were gone from the toilet, which caused Amanda to suppose someone had flushed the toilet while she herself was at the cottage alone earlier this morning. She would later find out from police that the feces were still there but had sunk.
Amanda ran outside to neighbors and banged on their door. No one was there. Amanda returned home. Raffaele told her that he wanted to break down Meredith's door. He tried but couldn't. He and Amanda decided to call the police but were unsure of which branch to call- Carabinieri (regular police) or the investigators. Raffaele called his sister, who advised him to call the Carabinieri. He did so. Amanda called Filomena.
The Postal police arrived and asked Amanda and Raffaele about the two phones found in a garden. Amanda showed the police around and told them in broken Italian what she could. Filomena arrived with her boyfriend and two friends. They all inspected the house and talked to the police. Then, while Amanda was in the kitchen, the police broke open Meredith's door and Filomena screamed in Italian, "A foot! A foot!" As Amanda moved toward Meredith's room Raffaele grabbed her and walked her out of the house.
The Postal police ousted everyone outside. Soon, the Carabinieri arrived. And then investigators came. They took the personal information of Amanda's party and asked questions, the same ones repeatedly. Amanda was 'freezing'. She had no jacket. Locked out of her house, she was glad she had her bag with her passport and wallet inside. The police sent everyone to the station.
Amanda was yet unaware of the condition of Meredith Kercher's body. The police had found Kercher's semi-nude body underneath a duvet on the floor- a foot had been poking out, as Filomena had seen. One side of Kercher's neck was severely bruised, the other side had been stabbed a few times with a knife.

Knox did NOT falsely accuse Lumumba. Police accused him & insisted to Knox they had proof. They harshly interrogated her until she made confused statements of imagined visions of herself & Lumumba present at the crime. She reaffirmed her innocence afterward but couldn't help Lumumba. All she knew was she was innocent. Cops said they had proof against Lumumba. Even if she knew they were lying, it wouldn't have mattered. They wouldn't believe anything she said.

Do you believe Amanda Knox is guilty? If your only sources are tabloid headlines and one or two websites that post hateful propaganda, you'll want to hang her. But when I looked past the accusations with an open mind at her side of the story, I cried and wanted to hug her. I challenge you to look at both sides before you make up your mind.
Proof of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt? Not even close.
Please...look for the truth and don't be part of the witch hunt.

According to 427 page "motivation" document, the murder wasn't premeditated. With this theory, the judges needed a reason for Raffaele's kitchen knife to somehow make it over to Meredith's cottage so it could be used in the murder. The report states that Raffaele most likely suggested to Amanda that she should carry the knife in her purse for protection. How many women carry large bulky kitchen knives around in their purse for protection?
How about these safety suggestions? Do these sound reasonable?
1. Always walk in groups.
2. Avoid walking in secluded areas after dark.
3. Carry pepper spray.
4. Take a self defense course.
5. Carry large kitchen knife in purse.
Really? That's honestly how the knife made it's way over to the cottage? I think it sounds ridiculous. How about you?

Use some common sense and look at the real Amanda Knox vs. the myths and nonsense put out by the Italian authorities. They had no real evidence against her, so they slandered and vilified her in the press to create an atmosphere and assumption of guilt before the trial even started. Ignore the lies and look at the facts and you'll see the evidence for a conviction just doesn't exist.
At least be honest and look at her side of the story before you decide:

Claire, You seem to be basing your decision of guilt on the information obtained during the interrogation. What exactly could not be corroborated in Amanda's letter home? She forgot one phone call to her mother. She was under extreme stress and she forgot one call. Amanda's flatmates forgot numerous times of phone calls. Filomena on several occasions gave entirely wrong times to the police when she thought she was talking to Amanda. Everyone was stressed. All people involved should not have been expected to remember every single detail. Have you seen the photos of Filomena's room? Even if the door was open, it wasn't immediately apparent that a break in occurred when looking from the hall. You have to realize that when Amanda came home, she wasn't looking for "clues." She came home to take a shower. Please visit: http://www.injusticeinperugia.org Look at the actual facts of this case. Please do not base your decision of guilt on the interrogation of Amanda and Raffaele. The police negl
You dont present any facts here and base your assumptions of what happened that night on Knox´s own account which has been discredited numerous times. Not only is an e-mail written two days after the murder not an alibi, nothing in it could be corroborated. In fact it was contradicted by many other witnesses, the flatmate she phoned, and even her own mother on the stand. It was also contradicted by her then boyfriend who said that Filomena´s door was OPEN when he arrived at the flat, meaning that the ´discovery´ of the burglary then was impossible. He also withdrew his alibi for the night in question saying Knox had asked him to lie and that he hadn´t been aware of contradictions in her story, a statement he has never retracted. If you manage to convince the posters here (who all seem to write the same post!)by witholding 95 per cent of the evidence presented at the trial good luck to you, but you can´t expect to be taken seriously by anyone who´s fol
Comment boards like this one are often filled with misinformation and outright lies. Please take some personal time, and look at the actual facts of this case. If you do, I am confident that you will come to the same conclusion that I have. Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito have been wrongly convicted. A horrible injustice has occurred in Perugia Italy.
Meredith Kercher had her life stolen from her. Meredith and her family deserve justice. Imprisoning two innocent people will bring no peace and, certainly, no justice for Meredith Kercher.

"Everyone in Italy wants to believe the worst of others so that they don't end up looking gullible."
This is known in Italian as "furbo" - a form of cunning and cleverness.
..
Quoted from Douglas Preston
The Monster of Florence
This book (at least the last 1/3) is an absolute must read to understand the Italian thought process and why the innocent Knox and Sollecito will suffer a long jail sentence - unless there is international intervention.
There is no credible evidence linking Amanda Knox or Raffaele Sollecito to this crime. Meredith Kercher's death was an act of extreme violence. Evidence of this crime was quickly spread throughout the crime scene. There is no credible evidence that puts Amanda Knox or Raffaele Sollecito in the room at the time of the murder.
There is not one fingerprint, not one footprint, not one shoe print, not one hair, not one fiber, no sweat, no saliva, no blood, and no DNA of any kind that puts Amanda Knox or Raffaele Sollecito in the room at the time of the murder.
Why? The answer is very clear. There was no evidence putting Amanda Knox and Raffaele sollecito in the room at the time of the murder because they were NOT there.
