Amanda and her brand-new sweetheart, Raffaele Sollecito, were blamed- before evidence was collected and analyzed. They were still blamed after false evidence was effectively refuted- and legitimate evidence proved their innocence. Highlights of the insidious thread that began before Amanda's birth are as follows.
Italy. The Monster of Florence had struck again last night Thursday, October 21, 1981. Among the vineyards were two dead young lovers, each with one or more bullets in the body, and she with a mutilation, her female tube connecting the cervix to the womb was missing. He was slumped inside the car, she lay ten meters away on the ground. Crime journalist Mark Spezi was at the scene, along with the police, carabinieri (Italian military police), prosecutors, a medical examiner, and other journalists- and a carabinieri colonel whom Spezi knew.
The chain-smoking colonel was rotating a stone in his hands as he approached Spezi. The stone, found twenty meters away from the double-homicide scene, seemed an unlikely clue. It was a hunk of granite with a square base and six triangular sides converging to a point that was imaginary because the top was flat, like a mesa- a pointless miniature hexagonal pyramid of sorts. It was a doorstop. The colonel said to Spezi, "This doorstop is the only thing I've found at the site of any possible significance. I'm taking it back as evidence, since it's all I've got. Maybe he [the Monster] used it to break the car window."
The pointless pyramid, commonly known as a Tuscan doorstop, heralded the immense significance that would be attributed to a similar doorstop nineteen years later. But for now, this one's quick climb to evidential prominence on the day after the double homicide of the Monter of Florence's ninth and tenth victims, in 1981, in the Bartoline Fields, was quickly followed by a return to obscurity.
In the summer of 1985, the last double homicide known to be perpetrated by the faceless Monster of Florence occurred when two French tourists making love in the Scopeti clearing were shot- and the woman sexually mutilated, as was usual. They were to be the last of sixteen Monster victims. What the serial killer had begun in 1968 had just ended, although no one realized it then.
By 2001, a different cast of characters was investigating the high-profile case. Many suspects had been accused, jailed, given a trial, freed, acquitted- or any combination thereof- or had even died. The face of the investigation was greatly altered. The civilian police and the carabinieri, who shared the same commission, were split asunder. The carabinieri had seemingly bowed out after the promising Sardinian Trail investigation was dropped and the latest Chief Inspector, Michele Giutarri, was hell-bent on following a completely fresh track without substance. And it included his belief that a satanic sect was responsible for the Monster killings.
Giutarri, who became a best-selling author, said in first book, "[The Monster] struck his victims while they were making love.... In that precise moment [of orgasm], powerful energies are released, indispensable for the person acting out satanic rituals, which bring power to himself and to the ritual he is celebrating."
During his Monster investigation, Giutarri had learned about the ancient order of the School of the Red Rose from a blogger, Gabrielle Carlizzi. Out of an old evidence locker, he scavenged the Tuscan doorstop found nineteen years earlier by Spezi's chain-smoking colonel. He described his all-important find to a major daily newspaper, in Italy, Corriere della Sera, as 'a truncated pyramid with an hexagonal base that served as a bridge between this world and Hell'.
Hell did break loose. On its new track, the Monster of Florence investigation went haywire with more random accusations at unsuspecting innocents thrown into the vortex of the satanic theory. Three years later, Mark Spezi himself would share that Hell.
In 2004, Spezi appeared on a television show. Using pure scientific facts, he publicly discredited Chief Inspector Giutarri's satanic theory regarding the Monster's killings. On the show, he displayed a stone relic he had borrowed from a friend. The relic, which weighed about five pounds, was a Tuscan doorstop, almost a twin of the one found by the colonel in 1981 and later dislodged from an evidence locker by Giutarri.
Spezi seemed to get away with discrediting Giutarri... until a few isolated incidences of weird coincidences were interpreted by the Public Minister of Perugia to strongly imply that Spezi was the Monster of Florence. The minister was the man who would become the relentless Chief Prosecutor against Amanda Knox- Giuliano Mignini. On a November night in 2004, based on Mignini's belief, Spezi's home was searched.
The search lasted for hours while Spezi and his wife and daughter looked on. When it seemed the search was over, Spezi was suddenly and unfairly accused by a detective of not cooperating. The accusation triggered the carabinieri and policemen to start turning Spezi's home upside down and inside out. Starting to lose his temper, Spezi made a mistake that would make his life Hell on Earth.
He exemplified the absurdity of the search by pointing out his borrowed Tuscan doorstop sitting behind a door. He mocked the investigators by saying, "It's like the truncated pyramid found at the scene of one of the [Monster's] crimes which you insist on claiming is an 'esoteric object'." He asked if they couldn't see that it was just a doorstop- found in Tuscan country homes.
A detective seized the doorstop, akin to the one described years earlier by the Corriere della Sera as 'an object to put the earthly world in contact with the infernal regions'. A police report would state that the wicked object had been found concealed behind a door. The Minister of Perugia, Giuliano Mignini, would eventually claim that the doorstop conclusively linked Spezi with the Monster of Florence murders.
Mario Spezi was jailed. About three weeks later, he was given a hearing, which lasted seven and a half hours. At some point during the hearing, Mignini accused him of denying his connection to the Narducci murder and the Monster serial killings. He possessed 'extremely delicate and sensitive material' that proved Spezi's guilt.
Spezi however did not know what the incriminating evidence was- until he heard Mignini shouting that the carabinieri had found harbored behind a door in Spezi's home 'a satanic stone that the accused persists in calling a doorstop'.
Despite this alleged overwhelming evidence, Spezi was freed the day after the hearing. Yet his release was not a simple matter. The bestselling book The Monster of Florence, by American author Douglas Preston with Spezi, details the extreme reasons as to why Spezi was freed as well as the ludicrous reasons as to why he is not yet free from Mignini's tentacled accusations.
A few months after Spezi's hearing, after an office raid, Mignini was discovered to have wiretapped journalists and to have taped telephone calls and conversations with several Florentine judges and investigators. He apparently suspected them of an immense Florentine conspiracy actively working 'against his investigation into the masterminds behind the Monster killings'. In the summer of 2006, Mignini and the official who had carried out his illegal activities, Michele Giutarri, were indicted.
In November 2007, British student Meredith Kercher was murdered, in Perugia. The first two persons blamed were Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito. They were accused, along with a yet-faceless third conspirator, to have perpetrated a satanic act of 'extreme sex, violence, and rape'- satanic because the murder was committed on the night before Italy's Day of the Dead.
Barely a week had passed when a provider of false information used almost verbatim by Mignini against Spezi- blogger and irrational conspiracy theorist Gabrielle Carlizzi- linked the Kercher murder to the Narducci murder case and to the Monster of Florence. The basic theory was that Meredith Kercher was a human sacrifice so that Satan might protect Narducci's killer.
Without one shred of physical evidence against Amanda- as stated earlier, all the false stories and false evidence have been competently and effectively refuted- Mignini managed to jail her and Rafaelle, also innocent, within days of the murder and keep them jailed (there is no monetary bail in Italy) until their trial a year later and then throughout their trial, which lasted a year. He also managed to finally convict the ex-sweethearts on December 4, 2009. The pair has been in jail for three years thus far.
That Mignini had been convicted of wrongdoing connected with the Monster case had not stopped him from his persecutory prosecution of Amanda and Rafaelle. The sentencing for his crimes had been suspended so that he could continue to carry out his flagrant injustice against the pair.
Over the years, the lives of many innocent persons falsely accused of being the Monster of Florence have been ruined. And now through the channel of Mignini's misguided mind, two more lives could be ruined. Amanda and Raffaele are innocent victims in a murder case deemed by Mignini and his blogger confidante Carlizzi to be a distant relative to the Monster of Florence case, with satanic sects and a doorstop that they affirm leads to Hell.
The real killer of Meredith Kercher, which scientific evidence fingers, Rudy Guede, has already been convicted, albeit with a greatly-reduced sentence. How many more lives does Mignini want to sacrifice before his covetous lust for satanic sects and magical doorstops is sated?
He is an old-fashioned man steeped in ancient superstitious beliefs that he has attributed to a young American girl whose knowledge of satanic sects was probably zilch until his fanciful prosecution educated her. Unlike the child who tries to fit square pegs into round holes, Mignini doesn't try to fit the scientific evidence to his theories. He simply disregards the science and instead manufactures whimsical so-called evidence to fit his fantasies.
Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito are innocent. Will their appeals, which could take years, set them free? Or will their lives be ruined? True justice will be served in the tragic murder of Meredith Kercher only when Amanda and Raffaele regain their freedom.

Post a CommentMignini is an idiot. I wonder if Italian law allows procecution of incompetent procecutors? Or maybe he should just be fired. He has already been convicted of abuse of power. He certainly owes Amanda Knox an apology. He should rot in Hell for what he did. When the Italian people find out what he did they will not have mercy. Look what they did to Mussolini. Magnini will be sorry he was born.

I LOVE this article! For too long Mignini has been ignored in this travesty. How I would love his name and his crimes to be the THE Headline in the news!
Please, sir, do continue!
"He is an old-fashioned man steeped in ancient superstitious beliefs"...
Add in Mignini's prejudice and vindictiveness, and one begins to understand this miscarriage of justice.
That two innocent young people continue to languish in prison because of this man is heartbreaking and sickening.
Now Amanda and Raffaele are fighting to get the lives back that he took away. They must depend on the Italians opening their minds, and seeing what a travesty of justice their conviction is.
A bright young honor student with a reputation for kindness and honesty goes off to study in Italy and overnight turns into a vicious murderer and liar? I’m skeptical. Seems hard to believe without some real proof. I looked all over the net for proof and didn’t find it. Found lots of slurs and allegations but all of it shown to be untrue or reasonably refuted. I’m firmly convinced she is innocent. Now someone has collected the information and posted it here:

Do you believe Amanda Knox is guilty? If your only sources are tabloid headlines and one or two websites that post hateful propaganda, you'll want to hang her. But when I looked past the accusations with an open mind at her side of the story, I cried and wanted to hug her. I challenge you to look at both sides before you make up your mind.
Proof of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt? Not even close.
Please...look for the truth and don't be part of the witch hunt.

So many twists and turns in this!
