On Tuesday March 11, 2008, Overmyer took the stage with her blonde streaked hair and performed The Beatles song You Can't Do That to a packed audience. Claiming to have never heard the song before this week's performances Overmyer infused her own style into a song that had the usual 1960's Beatles sound. Having never heard the original myself I went in search of the song and found that I enjoyed Overmyer's version much more than the original. It was as if Overmyer breathed new life into a boring song that was originally part of A Hard Day's Night.
Overmyer, who has recently been in the news because of her DUI arrest in 2006, received positive feedback from Idol judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Judge Simon Cowell agreed that the performance was good but said he preferred Overmyer's performance from the previous week over her performance of You Can't Do That.
It will be interesting to see if this girl with the Janis Joplinesque voice will be able to remain in the competition given the strong talent of this year's top twelve contestants. If Overmyer can get out of her comfort zone and show a bit of diversity in her voice she may do very well in this competition. She has that it factor that the judges are fond of referring to and can definitely make a song from years ago something worth listening to now. Tune in Wednesday night for the results show on Fox.

Post a CommentI really liked her raspy voice at first but then she started to stray away from performing the best that she possibly could. I knew that she wouldn't make it to the top but at least she tried. There are still a few that I am waiting to get booted off because their heads are becoming just as big as their voices.
