Amanda Rodrigues Gatti Suspect in Arturo Gatti's Death
Arturo Gatti was found dead in a Porto de Galinhas hotel room Saturday; police believe that Arturo Gatti may have been strangled with a purse strap. Arturo Gotti had arrived at the seaside resort in northeastern Brazil with his wife Amanda Rodrigues and their one-year-old son on Friday. The couples' son was not harmed and is reportedly being cared for by Amanda Rodrigues's sister, according to the Associated Press.
Milena Saraiva, a spokeswoman for the Pernambuco state civil police, told The Associated Press that the police are following up on reports that the couple - who were reportedly known to be extremely jealous of one another - had been fighting in the hours leading up to Arturo Gotti's death.
The news that Amanda Rodrigues is being detained as a suspect in the death of her husband Arturo Gatti makes the story disturbingly similar to another high-profile news story - namely, the murder of former star Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair at the hands of his mistress Sahel Kazemi.
Steve McNair, 36, and his mistress, Sahel Kazemi, 23, were found shot to death in the former QB's rented downtown Nashville condominium on July 4. Steve McNair had been shot four times - twice in the chest and once in each temple - while asleep on a couch.
After investigating the suspicious circumstances of the case, Nashville police determined that the double slaying was the result of a murder-suicide. They believe that Sahel Kazemi shot Steve McNair and then turned the gun on herself.
Investigators and members of the press speculate that Sahel Kazemi's motive for murdering Steve McNair may have stemmed from concerns that the married father of four had another girlfriend.
A memorial for Steve McNair was held on July 9 at the Mt. Zion Baptist church in Nashville.
