Amarnath Yatra

With the onset of Shravan(July and August), Hindu devotees focus on offering prayer to Lord Shiva. Some maintain ritualistic fast for 16 Mondays( Sola Somvaar), while many prepare for the Maha Shivrati. The most noticeable news of the time is Amarnath Yatra, when pilgrims make up their mind to exploring holy Amarnath Cave and purify their soul with the holy darshan of Shri Shiv Lingam, positioned inside the cave.

The holy Amarnath Cave is situated in the end of Lidder Valley in Jammu and Kashmir. Pilgrims with strong devotion proceed towards trekking a height of about 14,500 ft and dare to face any natural consequences. The Yatra takes place annually under the guidance of Jammu & Kashmir Tourist Department.

Pahalgam is just 315 km away from Jammu. One can hire Taxi/Buses to cover the distance. From here the trekking starts with following the cited route:

Things to remember during Amarnath Yatra:

Before proceeding for a holy trip, check if you are physical strength from registered medical centers.

The climate may turn worst and therefore, keep all your eyes and ears open while taking each step.

Tourist offices, handling Amarnath Yatra is at Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Ahemdabad, Hyderabad, Jammu and Srinagar. Register yourself prior to the date of journey.

It is advised not to wear slippers for trekking because of the steep rises and falls on the route. Ladies should avoid wearing complicated clothes like saris and should opt for Salwar Kameej.

Carry first aid box filled with medicines for common diseases. Water bottle, eatables like dry fruits, cold creams are must carry items.
