Amaryllis Bulbs: Where to Buy Them

Go Green with Amaryllis Bulbs

Sandy James

If you want to go green this year with your gift giving, why not think about purchasing amaryllis bulbs for the people on your list. Amaryllis bulbs have become so popular and with good reason. During the bleak winter months, these stately stalks bloom with vibrant flowers that add color and beauty into our homes. The plant itself is very easy to care for and amaryllis bulbs can last for many years. For tips on how to care for amaryllis bulbs, my article entitled "How To Successfully Grow Amaryllis Year After Year" will help you with that.

Purchasing these delightful plants is easy as most local supermarkets and garden nurseries will have them available during the fall months. There are also many reputable garden nurseries online where you can purchase these bulbs. Colors can range from white to peach, pink, scarlet, and two-toned. Their popularity has horticulturists developing more and more colors and different styles of hybrid amaryllis. An amaryllis bulb makes a great gift during the holidays whether it's for someone else or for yourself.

The following list of online nurseries offer amaryllis bulbs and I've ordered from them. They're good quality bulbs and these nurseries also have good customer service.

American Meadows

American Meadows is located in Vermont and offers some outstanding choices in amaryllis plants. You can purchase just a bulb or a gift boxed set. Many varieties are available from this nursery including the double-flowering amaryllis or the newer exotics. The items are packed very neatly and I had no breakage or problems with the bulbs I've ordered from this company. Their bulbs are of excellent quality. I especially like their "Full House" amaryllis bulb which is two-toned and extremely attractive. To view their varieties, just click here on American Meadows.

White Flower Farm

Located in Connecticut, this nursery has over 40 varieties of amaryllis bulbs for this season. They are a bit pricey but the bulbs are excellent quality and should last a long time with proper care. Their customer service is very helpful and will answer any questions that you have. You can purchase single bulbs or a trio of three different amaryllis bulbs, potted or unpotted. I have their frilly "Dancing Queen" which makes a gorgeous display when the flowers open. You can check out all their varieties by going to White Flower Farm.

Easy To Grow Bulbs.com

Located in California, this company focuses on bulbs that are easy to grow for gardeners at all levels. Although they cater to warm weather regions, in the colder states amaryllis bulbs would be grown indoors. They'll provide you with quality bulbs and answer any questions that you might have. They have many different varieties of amaryllis including the new exotics and large double-flowered amaryllis bulbs. You can purchase single bulbs or a potted amaryllis bulb in a nice gift basket. When you're on their website, check out the beautiful salmon colored "Blooming Bells" that is offered at just $11.95 and the deep velvety red of the "Benfica" for just $13.95. You can check out all their amaryllis bulbs for this year at www.easytogrowbulbs.com .

Amaryllis bulbs make a very nice gift and are very easy to care for. They are a green gift that will last many years.
