Amazing: New Generation IPod Touch 4g Coming Soon, What's Next for Apple?

After IPhone 4g Release, It's Time for a 4th Generation IPod Touch, Don't You Think?

Meg G.
A new generation iPod Touch is on its way. Another generation of the iPod Touch - basically the iPhone without the phone - is needed by those who love Apple products. I am still using my first Apple product ever - an iPod Touch (second generation) and it has transitioned me into someone who must have gadgets from the Cupertino, California based company. If I'm not listening to music at work on my Touch, blogging on my MacBook Pro, or reading a story to my son on my iPad, I feel lost.

And so it's important for Apple to keep these products innovative. You never know which product is going to turn a lifetime PC user into an Apple lover. Although I didn't have immediate plans to replace my iPod Touch - we have a long history together - now that word of the new generation phone has hit, I think my little gadget is shivering in her box.

According to the San Fransisco Gadgets Examiner, John Gruber at Daring Fireball announced that the next generation iPod Touch is coming out soon. He made mention of the hit product when discussing the new Dell Streak, which is due out soon. He noted that the Touch is half the cost of the Streak and if people just wait a couple of weeks they will get a product with retina display and two cameras.

Of course, I am thanking my lucky stars that I didn't get an iPhone 4 because of all the antenna problems (I wanted a white one, anyways) - and I wouldn't have to worry about the whole "antennagate" scandal when purchasing a Touch.

Next month marks the lifecycle of the iPhone-phone iPod. Therefore, it's reasonable to assume that within the next month to six weeks, we will be learning of a new product.

Just a quick disclaimer - there's no mention of a next generation iPod Touch on the Apple.com Web site. However, Apple usually keeps their product release information quiet until Steve Jobs announces it. John Gruber is usually pretty accurate when indicating that Apple is going to be releasing products. With all the other updates that the company has rolled out this year, it's definitely time for the gadget to get a facelift.

And yes, I will likely be one of the first to purchase the next generation product. I won't throw out my old one, though - I will let my son watch movies on it, sort of like his very own mini-iPad.

One thing most people want is a case to protect their new iPod. I published some reviews on various 4G cases.

Apple usually updates the iPod line up in Mid September every year. Its safe to assume the next iPod Touch will be released this September as well after "Buy a Mac get an iPod Touch Free" campaign ends. I discussed all this and more rumors about iPod Touch 4th gen here:

yeah well check it out, people are worried that giving the ipod touch 2 cameras like the iphone 4 is gonna kill iphone 4 sales, but you gotta think...no it's not, i mean think about it, everyone who has a touch still has a cell phone right?? i mean you'll see them listening to their music on the touch, then rip out a flip phone, seriously guys, that would make you think, why not get an iphone?? there's tons of leaks and i think that it wont kill the iphone sales, i mean, everyone still wants their phones, so go all the way with the touch 4. oh and for one little comment, i think they should put a 5 mp camera with HD recording in the touch 4, i mean yeah it'll make it thicker but i'd rather have a worthy product that's good for my money with a great camera in it than a thin one with low quality features....right? i mean sacrifice a little portability or slimmness for a good camera. later on!!
