Amazing Grace Baptist Church to Burn Bibles, Other Books for Halloween
King James Bible 'Only True Word of God'
Pastor Grizzard says that he is a Christian. However it seems that the Amazing Grace Baptist Church believes that only the King James Version of the Bible is the true word of God and that all other versions of "perversions" and "Satanic." Along those same principles, Pastor Grizzard intends to burn books written by Christian authors such as Billy Graham and Rick Warren.
The idea that the true word of God is only pure when it is written in early 17th Century English, with the thous and thees in a book compiled about 1600 years after the death of Jesus Christ is somewhat mind-boggling. The original books that make up the Bible were written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
The translation into English commissioned by King James I of England was somewhat imperfect in conveying some of the concepts. The process of translating what became the King James Bible was also rife with politics and doctrinal controversy. Part of the reason King James ordered the translation was that he desired to limit the influence of the Puritans, deeply religious Englishmen who were somewhat skeptical of the "purity" of the Anglican Church.
One also has to scratch ones head what is Christian, religious, or even sensible about burning Bibles and other books. Besides having the odor of Nazi era book burning, the idea of a Christian church burning Christian books smacks one as bizarre behavior. What the Amazing Grace Baptist Church proposes to do lends credence to the idea advanced by some secularists that people of faith have a tendency to do nutty things.
The attitude of Pastor Grizzard seems similar to that of certain Islamofascists who are paranoid about "false versions" of the Koran being promulgated in order to deceive that true believers. This matter usually comes up when someone points to suras that suggest that Allah, speaking through his prophet Mohammed, would strongly disapprove of suicide bombers and other crazed jihadis and what they do.In other words, the word of God is not really what is written in any version of the Bible, whether in the language of Shakespeare (as impressive as it is), but whether what one wants it to be. In many ways man creates God in his own image just as much as God creates man in his image.

Post a CommentWow, not often am I speechless but all I can do is pray and quote Scripture (the King James at that)
Luke 9:49-50 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us. ......
1Co 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1Co 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
1Co 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
1Co 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
1Co 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Sad.
Ginger, thanks for the update. I guess God does not hold with book burning after all.
and several others. A gentleman that was dressed in an outfit of a Nazi soildier came out, gave an interview saying this promotes hate. He wouldn't give his name and held two books, one was the Mormon bible and the other was not able to be seen. Protestors were unsure if he was there in support of the event or against it. Left most of us puzzled.
We are unsure if chicken and all the sides were served!
Tonight the heavens opened and rain fell. Book burning didn't take place. There were several news crews, reporters, Sheriff and protesters. If I had been the pastor I would have been embarrassed that more protesters came out than members. There may have been books destroyed but when the flock left the building it was the woman and children first, only five of them and then the pastor himself. As the woman and children left he turned out the porch light, as if trying to hide their identities and turned it on and then back off when he left.
During the service it was said the news crew and others were listening through the floor upstairs and could here yelling from the service. The only disappointing thing was that more locals didn't attend the event. One came as far as Chattanooga, Tn and others an hour or so away. Was a peaceful event and most that were there didn't agree with this radical man!
There were signs that read things like: What would Jesus do, Who are we to judge and s
The whole purpose of the KJV was to translate the manuscripts into the language of the common man. That is to make it easier for any literate person to be able to understand what God has to say to us. %0D%0A%0D%0AKJV english is 400 years out of date. We do not speak that language anymore. The new translations are in agreement with the KJV translators in that they again make the Bible understandable to the common person.
Now, if there is any difference in the message between the KJV and any other translation, I could see the point of the KJV'ers only. But there is not. The major new translations all teach the tenants of the Faith. Maybe if a verse is taken out of context you might find disagreements, but not if you take the entire message as a whole.
In the name of Jesus I beg these people, quit tearing apart the Body of Christ, the Temple of the Holy Spirit, by such senseless arguments and book burnings.
Half truth is a whole lie
2TI 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
There are two words in this verse to pay very close attention to the word STUDY and WORKMAN no where in Gods word will you find God telling us to make his word easer or simpler to understand. God even told Adam to work. He wants us to work he told Noah to build an ark, that was 100 years of work.
When we try to fix God's word by making it easy to understand we are telling God he could not give us a correct English speaking version of the bible correctly even though we believe that he spoke the world into existence we have to fix his word for him. Is not the God of the universe able to give us an infallible and correct English word or does man need to correct God and help him do his work
( God works Why Shouldn't we)
Satan is not going to beat down your door and take all the K J version bibles there are to many
These people are nuts, I use the NIV Bible because the King James verison is hard to understand. But the NIV version says the samething the King James version does.I can't believe they would even think about burning Billy Grahams books or any other christian artist as long as they are getting God's word out to people. I don't know what to say other then there is no way I would ever go that church. And that they need a lot of prayer to see their wrong ways. I think Satan is at work in that "so called church" and the person that is going to have to answer to this is going to be that pastor he is suppose to be leading God's sheep and he is leading them astray and he will be judged for it.Dear Lord I pray that you will go to this church and get the devil out of it and out of their hearts, please help them see what they are doing is wrong and direct them down the right path. I pray this in Jesus's name Amen.
I have read the NIV as well as the KJV. Also the NASB, the RSV and a couple of others.
Now, you can take verses out of context, and claim the say different things, but in context they all have the very same message.
Every one of the translations I mentioned teach the Deity of Christ, the virgin Birth, the Trinity, Salvation by Grace through Faith etc.
I used to work with a guy who went to a similar Baptist church in Castro Valley, CA. He gave his congregation a list of what had been "removed" from the King James edition citing the verse from Revelations "anyone who removes or adds to this book will be cast into the lake of fire". Basically saying you're on the road to hell if you're reading an NIV. I checked this list with my copy of the "Living Bible" and guess what, it was all still there just phrased differently. Exact same message. He also said he stopped listening to rock music and exclusively started listening to classical. Naming composers like Beethoven, Mozart, and Wagner. I'm a musician so my response was "let me tell you about those guys. Beethoven, womanizer. Mozart would make Motley Crue look like little choir boys. And Wagner, talk about a violent anti-semetic.".
I'm a soldier in the Salvation Army. He asked me one day "do you have drums in your church? do you know that drums are used to summon up demon
