I visited the store last evening for a preview and fund raiser for the Wistar Institute of the University of Pennsylvania. The Wistar Institute is a National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center. There is a great deal of emphasis on breast cancer these days but skin and lung cancers are also diseases that we should focus on.
I saw such lovely things at this event, shoes and a limited collection of very stylish and also comfortable clothing and there were very cute models wearing the shoes and clothes as well. I wished for the days when I was rail thin. But, I also got to enjoy the hors d'oeuvres from 12th Street Catering (at The Bellevue). So life has its trade offs and aging can be fun too.

Some designers featured at Stiletto are: Giuseppe Zanotti, Roberto Cavalli, Alessandro Dell'Acqua and Sergio Rossi and the event was also sponsored by the Italian Trade Commission, part of the Trade Promotion Section of the Consulate General of Italy.

Today, I went shopping at Macy's. They have really wonderful clothes, but when I was searching for shoes I just could not find anything to compare with the shoe specialty store. Even at 1/6th the price I have to say I'll stick to the really dazzling choices from Stiletto. However, I did find a nice fall turtleneck, a long sleeved burnt orange polo shirt (in the boys section) and also a great dark blue and white dress on sale.

They were also having an event to benefit charity where you made a five dollar donation and got a coupon in return. That deal is for today only but I have to say I will definitely be shopping there for Christmas items soon. In fact, there is a lovely little tree tucked away in the corner to get us all in the spirit. There also was a mini concert of Philadelphia children singers from Girard College's elementary school.

There were other events planned throughout the day for people with small children. When I looked up, the whole organ area was lit in the most wonderful shade of pale fuchsia in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Heart Association is also a beneficiary of the fund raising drive. I forgot to stop back by the Benefit counter. There were two nice ladies there doing makeovers just on the edge of the cosmetics area heading away from the Mens' section. What a lovely store. It was once John Wanamaker's and has changed hands several times since then. I am glad to see that they are keeping up with some of the Philadelphia traditions we cherish.

The fall colors are great this year's I saw lots of greys, purples and blues. I also notice fabulous gowns from Max Azria and BCBG. And I also saw a few really cute cocktail length evening gowns from Nicole Miller. It's that season again. Time for dressing up and meeting friends and catching up with people who've been away all summer. It's time for fancy tailgating and homecoming and backed good and soups. I just love autumn in Philadelphia, don't you?
