The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown
Harvard professor Robert Langdon investigates a mystery about Masons. I heard rumors about how bad Dan Brown's writing is, but nothing prepared me for this. There's a line about how the good we do for others "remains and is immortal." Actually, remaining is what makes a thing immortal.
The Holy Bible (NIV) by Zondervan
There are conflicting opinions from readers about how easy it is to navigate this most highlighted book at Amazon Kindle but everyone likes the low price of $9.99. I'm Buddhist but happy to see people practicing whatever their tradition.
The Shack by William P. Young
A man whose daughter has been abducted receives a note from God to meet him in a shack that contained evidence of her possible murder. Many readers find the novel's spiritual message uplifting even if they're less enthusiastic about the literary merits.
A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle
This Oprah book club winner urges people to shift their attention away from their egos. Sounds good to me.
Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell
Gladwell argues that success depends on when and where you're born and how you spend your time. Having been laid off at 50, I can see that timing is important but I'm not going to waste time analyzing dead ends.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
I found this Swedish thriller about the missing niece of a wealthy industrialist entertaining. I didn't find any passages profound enough to need Kindle highlighting.
Getting Things Done by David Allen
The book provides a system for organizing your business and your home. Lots of people find it helpful but warn about rampant jargon and buzzwords.
The One Year Bible by Tyndale
This version aims to help people read the entire Bible in one year. I benefit from structured Buddhist classes so I love this idea.
The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferris
Any advice on how to work less and live more interests me. I'm a little skeptical of the talk about tropical islands and riches, but I'd still take a look.
ESV Study Bible by Crossway Bibles
It claims to be the most comprehensive Bible study ever published and gets very positive reviews from readers.
The most highlighted books on Amazon Kindle are a mixture of superficial fiction and the pursuit of deeper spiritual meaning. Hopefully, the deeper works will prevail on future lists about Kindle highlighting.

Post a CommentA very interesting list. Thanks for sharing.
Whoever wrote "The Four Hour Work Week" is a genius, because you know everybody would love that! It doesn't matter how good or bad the book is, it is going to be read just because of the title.
Interesting! I interviewed Tim Ferris when he did a pilot for television. The popularity of his book seems to be enduring. He was a very nice guy, sincere, easy to interview.
I still haven't found it enjoyable to read a book on a screen, although my son has a huge library on his Macbook and loves it. I still like turning physical pages in a book--old fashioned librarian!
I thought people were finally over Dan Brown! Shared this article on Facebook...
I don't have a kindle, but love reading and the Shack was a tearjerker for me...loved it, also loved Dan Brown's books he's such an interesting writer. This list doesn't surprise me one bit. ;)
Amazing how Oprah's book club seems to mean automatic success for that book.
