When you take the Kindle out of the box you will notice two things. First, unlike almost any other electronic device that you have bought you do not have to wait until it is charged. The Kindle comes completely charged and ready to use. The other thing that the kindle does is come preregistered in your name. So when you turn it on, it welcomes you.
The size is amazing. The Kindle is about the size of a DVD jewel box. The small size but with a great screen add a lot to the enjoyment of this portable reading device.
Talking about the screen, it is very easy to read. However, being a little older I find that the assortment of font sizes is a real plus. The size of the next page button along the side of the Kindle make it an easy one handed operation when it comes to reading. With pushing the font size to the limit makes it easy to read a book on the treadmill.
I love the fact that you can wireless get your next book and only pay for the book and not a connection or delivery fee. The speed of getting a complete book can be done in as little as 20 seconds.
Now with that being said I do have a a big complaint. The amazon kindle is a text reader and doesn't do pictures. I go to a lot of flea markets and auctions. It would be nice if you could download the collectibles book in any category and see the pictures in the book. That way if you wanted to quickly learn about new items and their values then you could.
Three other things that I really like about the Kindle is the fact that it has a built in dictionary. I have used my Palm TX a lot to read books using the mobipocket reader. But there is no easy way to find the definition of an unknown word that you come across while reading a book with the Palm. While with the kindle it is a delight to learn new words.
The fact that you can connect to Wikipedia is really a great asset to the kindle. There are many times that I want to quickly research and item. The fact that you can get on Wikipedia for free makes this a great addition to the kindle.
The other thing that I like is that you can connect to Kindle's Nownow. This is a free search service for the kindle. If you ask Nownow a question you will get three answers back in a very short amount of time. Since these answers are more relevant the search , at least to me, is better than Google's.
The final thing I will say is that the battery life is something you have to get use to. If you only turn on the wireless service for short periods of time then the battery lasts a few days. If you leave the wireless service on then you almost have to charge it ever other day. The good news is that it doesn't take long to charge.
Would I recommend Amazon's Kindle? Yes, but only if you are an avid reader or have been one. This is not picture orientated so it is not at all a device such as the Palm TX. But if you love to read this is the device for you.
