Amber Carter, School Teacher, Arrested for Prostitution Rendezvous

Teaher Used School Computer to Make Appointment Then Skipped Class

Prostitution is illegal throughout the United States, except for in the state of Nevada, where it is treated as commerce and taxed accordingly. Given the failing economy there is little doubt that the number of people engaging in prostitution, legal and illegal, is on the rise. So it comes as little surprise that the Associated Press would report a woman was arrested in Bellefontaine, Ohio, in the middle of the afternoon for prostitution. What is a surprise is that Amber Carter is employed, a fourth grade teacher, and cut classes just to meet her appointment.

Do they pay teachers so little in Ohio? Doubtful.

Amber Carter was arrested for misdemeanor prostitution and felonious unauthorized use of property (she used a school computer to set up the rendezvous) by Logan County Sheriffs Tuesday afternoon (February 10) in the parking lot of a Bellefontaine motel.

That Amber Carter had a side job as a prostitute came as a shock to the people with whom she worked. According to Bellefontaine City Schools superintendent Larry Anderson said that the 35-year-old Amber Carter had never received even so much as a reprimand in the 13 years she had been teaching.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Carter was booked and released. According to Sheriff's Deputies, the teacher had been arrested following a tip they had received. Following up, they found and arrested Amber Carter at a local Super 8 Motel.

Superintendent Anderson noted that Carter had been placed on administrative leave Tuesday.

But is this an isolated incident or just another sign of the rough economic times? It is difficult to say with certainty. When teachers have an association with prostitution, it is usually as a purchaser of services, not as one involved in the trade itself.

Although the behavior cannot be condoned, one thing can be said about Amber Carter: She was not meeting one her schoolchildren or someone of school age for sex.

Just last week a 49-year-old Phoenix elementary teacher lured a 14-year-old male student to a Best Western hotel in Guadalupe, Arizona, and had sex with him. According to the East Valley Tribune, by texting the teenager and pretending to be her own goddaughter, who was the boy's girlfriend, Rosanna Brown lured the teen into a darkened hotel room and had sex with him. Afterward, Brown turned on the light and the boy recognized her as his English teacher. He left and told his mother what had happened, and she subsequently confronted Brown in the hotel room and called the police. Brown was arrested and charged with suspicion of three counts of crimes against children involving sexual conduct with a minor.

Rosanna Brown had been a teacher for 28 years.

She was placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the police investigation.

This is a terrible incident, especially considering she used the work computer - However, you made one comment with which I disagree - most teachers are far underpaid, especially for what is expected of them - including work, continuing education, and (I believe) the old fashioned "teacher's ethic" is still important.

Wow! I think she might end up losing her job as a teacher too for being involved in a vice crime. What will some women stoop to? Maybe if they made prostitution legal our economy would flourish! There's so many doing it.. why not just make it legal and keep it clean and get taxes off it country wide? That's one way to decrease the national deficit.
