Amber Portwood Hates Being a Teen Mother

Amber Portwood, the star of "Teen Mom" on cable television, recently told Life and Style magazine that her life has been ruined by becoming a teen mother and announcing it on television. Well, becoming pregnant as a teen girl then using that to get attention usually does not have positive results. By the time the poor girl does give birth, the boy who impregnated her has left town for good and is nowhere to be found by the authorities and the girl is left on her own to fend for herself if she does not have a supportive family. In Amber's case, though, her fiance Gary Shirley has managed to sick around when she is not throwing cast iron pots at him and winding up in jail because of that. Her poor child, Leah, is two years old and the real victim in this entire mess. When you are that young and you have a child for a mother herself saying she wish she never had you, there is a greater chance for the real child to grow up with issues.

Amber herself has maturity issues that prohibit her and Gary from having a real, solid relationship. Poor Gary looks more like a couch potato, dealing with weight problems in addition to an abusive fiancee. This sort of situation makes one ask the question, "Are these kids really staying together to benefit Leah?" And the television show "Teen Mom" really did not help either of them, since Amber choose to go on the show to "go public" with a life that is supposed to be kept private. But privacy is something very rare in our nation when one too many people are busy announcing pregnancy, bedroom behavior, and everything else to the world. Since doing something like that benefits no one (at best, decent people get turned off by such topics and do not discuss them with other people), it is no surprise that Amber finally admitted that she made a big error in her life.

If things keep up the way for Amber, Child Protection Services may step in and take 2 year-old Leah away from her. Such cases are not rare when parents are considered unfit for parenting, and there is no license quite yet to apply for to become a parent. Granted, it should be made legally difficult to have a child since one too many children wind up being abused in the name of a young "caring parent." Amber was much too young to get pregnant and is even younger when it comes to a real relationship with Gary. Sadly, children their age have no concept of real love, being too young to understand what it really is. At best, Amber and Gary know about dependency and sex, two things which remain mutually exclusive to a solid relationship based on real love. Hopefully they will grow up at some point and try to correct the mistakes they made as teenagers.
