Amber- a Surprising and Effective Healing Remedy for Your Teething Baby

April Horton
Are you looking for a natural remedy for your fussy teething baby? Are you sick of teething gels and tablets that are mediocre at best? Try an amber teething necklace or rattle! There is no need to keep buying and administering products to your baby over and over. Amber is easy to use and very effective.

Teething is the usually the very first of visible 'growing pains' in our children. It is also a pivotal time in the parent- child relationship. How we react and treat our children during this milestone can very well shape how they react to pain and discomfort. We as parents can either mask the symptoms or treat them in a loving and gentle manner.

Amber has been used for thousand's of years and many parents are discovering it's healing properties for their teething infants and toddler's. Amber is natural remedy that is gentle and really works without drugs or side effects. It is completely safe and non toxic.

Amber has been used in Europe and Asia for many years to help babies get through the discomfort of teething. Recently amber teething necklaces and rattles have been introduced in the US and the trend has taken off with many parents. With good reason too, as it really works!

Amber is a rich golden, honey colored fossilized resin. It was formed from ancient forests between 35 and 40 million years ago in what is now the Baltic Sea region. The trees in this forest dripped and overabundance of sap on to the forest floor. Over time organic matter covered the sap and was fossilized. There are ten different kinds of amber that come from this region with succinite being the most common. It is still being extensively mined and exported from Lithuania.

Amber has been known and recorded to have been used to facilitate healing since around 460 BC. For many years amber teething necklaces have been sold in pharmacies as a teething aid for babies across Europe. It has become a traditional remedy in many cultures and has now caught on as a healing remedy in the US. The appeal of the necklaces is a drug free and natural way to soothe a teething baby that is suffering from pain and other discomforts. Amber is also available and usind in the construction of several teething rattles on the market as well.

Amber acts as a natural analgesic and helps calm a cranky irritable baby. How it works is that amber is electromagnetically charged and emits negative ions to the body which actually releases endorphins and promotes a sense of calm and well being. When amber is worn as a teething necklace the skin absorbs small amounts of oils from the resin. It can also be warmed slightly in the sun beforehand to further increase it's natural healing powers.

Teething necklaces are specially designed for use on infants and are relatively safe. Babies and toddlers should always be supervised when wearing one but they should not pose a direct danger to your child if you purchase a properly constructed necklace. A quality teething necklace should cost you around $30. Don't be tempted to skimp on quality! Each bead is double knotted and they are small enough that if your baby did ingest one it will not pose a choking hazard and the necklaces are made at the appropriate length for a small child or infant. They also feature a safety clasp. The necklace is designed for wearing, not chewing and can be worn by infant's as young as 4 months old. The necklaces should be removed during bathing as to not weaken the beading string. Amber teething rattles are a bit more obscure and hard to find but they do exist and will likely become more popular as the trend catches hold around the world.

So next time your baby becomes irritable and cranky with a fever and diarrhea reach for amber first! This ancient resin can help your little one as he or she goes through this first transition in life.

:o I have always been worried about an amber teeth necklace for my son (when he is teething he is not gentle at all with what he is chewing on), but I always thought that they were neat. Great article!
