Ambient Energy Being Used to Energize Smaller Electronics

A Clever Way to Go Green

Seeking out alternative energy sources that are more green happens to be a priority for just about every major company in the world. Manufacturers are playing with hundreds of different theories and concepts to create energy. Researchers at the University of Michigan decided toe experiment with ambient vibrations. This is a process that is starting to be used to operate some generators throughout the world. However, this team of researchers appear to have found a way to use ambient vibrations to power objects on a much smaller scale.

Using ambient vibrations on a smaller scale took a lot of technological maneuvering. The researchers were able to capture enough energy to power pacemakers, watches, and even wireless sensors. You might be wondering how they go about capturing the energy though. This is where you might be surprised by how ever present this energy is and how easy it might be able to be harvested into energy to power many of our basic electronic devices.

Ambient Vibrations are created when anything vibrates. For example, the traffic going across a bridge creates a mega load of energy. Heavy operational machines vibrating violently produce this type of energy as well. Heck, even swinging your arms around in a circle produces this type of energy! In order to capture this energy into smaller devices the researchers needed to use piezoelectric material. This is a material that produces a charge when stressed and is very important to the process.

This discovery could be seen as quite the breakthrough over the next decade. Ambient vibrations have long been another source of creating energy. However, a lot of companies have stayed away from this energy because of the difficulty in capturing it. Enhancements on technology have made it easier to capture this technology and is allowing researchers to revisit the concept as a real option. It will be interesting to see how the researchers continue to build experiments and test the process. We could see this form of energy being used in smaller electronics as early as next year. Green energy is indeed here with the rediscovery of the awesome properties of ambient vibrations.
