Ambre Lake Goes Topless in Front of Mormon Temple

Remember Ambre Lake from VH1's "reality" series "Rock of Love," which starred Poison's Bret Michaels? No? Not admitting you watched "Rock of Love" or simply that she made such a small impression? Regardless, Ambre Lake made an big impression on Santa Monica Boulevard this week by going topless and writing "Legalize Gay" (for legalize gay marriage) on her stomach. Not that that would have been such a big deal in Los Angeles, but she protested California's ban on gay marriage -- topless, no less -- right in front of the second biggest Mormon temple in the world.

Ambre Lake pulled off her top for a photo shoot. She wasn't completely topless, because she had a thin black wraparound covering her breasts, but, technically, she pulled her top off, so... The photo shoot played out on the sidewalk in front of the Mormon temple in protest of the involvement of the Mormon church in the passage of Proposition 8 (which disallows gay marriage) and the continued support of anti-gay causes. Ambre Lake pulled off a flesh-colored shirt that said "Legalize Gay" only to reveal that she had also written the same words across her stomach.

But, as TMZ reported, the maneuver and the photo shoot began to attract attention (which was exactly what Ambre Lake and crew wanted). A policeman soon appeared and had Amber Lake cover up her topless pro-gay display. He explained, "You are causing a traffic hazard."

Ambre Lake appeared on Season 2 of Brett Michael's "Rock of Love" and went on to win the Poison singer's affections (until Season 3: "Rock of Love: Charm School") over Daisy de la Hoya. While on the show, she claimed to be 31 but was actually 37. She has a Masters in Fine Arts from Michigan State University and has done a lot of work in animation voiceovers, modeling, and acting, including her very first movie role as the wedding coordinator in "Sweet Home Alabama."

It is unclear if Ambre Lake, now closing in on 40 years of age, simply wanted to get her name in print and her face back in the public eye, but taking on an emotional and political hot topic like gay marriage will certainly get her noticed. Proposition 8 was controversial from its inception and its passage during the 2008 elections (it was on the California ballot in November) garnered it even more national and international attention, especially from the gay community, who found it a huge setback, having previously obtained the right to marry in the state of California.

Of course, some will churlishly believe that it is a comment on her relationship with Bret Michaels...

But as for publicity stunts, her little photo shoot would have garnered far more attention had she went truly topless (and subsequently arrested). But for that she probably has to join PETA or something -- and who really wants that?
