Hello America, how are you?
Are you getting enough to eat?
Are you safe in your bed at night?
Are you getting enough sleep?
Are you watching your favorite TV shows?
Hanging out with your friends?
Listening to your favorite music?
Grabbing burgers for lunch again?
Did you get to go shopping today?
Take your children to the park?
Are you going to catch your favorite movie this weekend?
Are you scared of the dark?
America, America
Are you really still there?
Did we do something wrong?
To make you stop daring
To make you stop caring
To make you give up on your own?
We shed some tears and keep on going
Cuz we have a job to do
We're standing on the front lines
Bleeding and dying
Fighting a war for you
Bombs exploded all around me last night
As I lay my head down to sleep
And as I went off to work this morning
I saw people laying dead in the street.
We tried to save a family today
But we didn't see the bomber in time.
I held that little girl
As she screamed for her Mommy
And tried to shield her eyes
America, America
Are you really still there?
Did we do something wrong?
To make you stop daring
To make you stop caring
To make you give up on your own?
We shed some tears and keep on going
Cuz we have a job to do
We're standing on the front lines
Bleeding and dying
Fighting a war for you
Last week I watched some TV
And you'll never guess what I saw.
I saw a man and a woman
Telling the world
That this was all our fault
Now, I don't know about you
But I shook my head and sighed
I gritted my teeth, said a prayer
And spit to the side
Don't they know that words can hurt?
That words can win or lose a war?
Has everyone back home forgotten?
Forgotten what we're fighting for?
America, America
Are you really still there?
Did we do something wrong?
To make you stop daring
To make you stop caring
To make you give up on your own?
We shed some tears and keep on going
Cuz we have a job to do
We're standing on the front lines
Bleeding and dying
Fighting a war for you
This song/poem is dedicated to the United States Military and the American people. Please wake up and stop the infighting. Get behind our President, our Country and, most of all, our troops. Stop mouthing the words and actually do something!
"America, America" was inspired by current events and this letter posted at Gathering of Eagles.

Post a Commentto Alyce Rocco: 'it's 'white supremacists', madam, not 'white supremists'....
I fully believe in supporting our troops, but I am not behind our president.
Great! Thank you!
I am grateful for anyone that is willing to kill or be killed on behalf of others. But I can not stand behind a president that has changed the US Constitution, so that any citizen can be picked up, hauled off without rights to a phone call, council and held for an indefinite time period without charge. Blind patrioism is what allowed people like Hitler to mass murder citizens.
Nice poem. I do not know what you are fighting for. To the best of my knowledge some people decided we should commit genocide on innocent women and children because Iraq was going to the Euro dollar which was going to devalue the US one that has been the standard for years. A good government would be supporting using alternative sources of enegry and ending our countries dependence on oil. (Brazil and others have been doing so for years) Then our troops could be home ready to defend us in the event of an attack. Things sure look like they are heating up for a civil war between the La Razas and the white supremists, judging by what they are saying on the Internet. Lord knows what they are saying and doing in private. When people are chanting "Viva La Mexico" joined by non-Mexican immigrants on the streets of Boston it is rather scary to think that LA port jobs are held mainly by illegal immigrants.
Thank you fer sharin' your heart. Y'all might enjoy my article "Arlington, my memory."
It is a sad situation we have gotten ourselves into as a country. I fight with the reality every day of trying to figure out how to teach my children to reason with their intellect and not with useless acts of agression when the leaders of our Nation promote the opposite! (Rambling sorry!)
You made some valid points in this piece, in a rather "poetic" manner, I must say.
You're still the man for writing all you do, great poem...don't worry about Jeff...I think he is my evil opposite...everything he says makes me want to puke. He always talks about not hating and doing the right thing, but it seems to me that he HATES Christians like me with a passion and also hates patriots. Great poem!
Excellent. I like it.
