America Ferrerra Takes Best Actress, but is the Rest of the Show a Bust?

Emmy Results for 'Ugly Betty'

Betty Suarez may not have an award winning sense of style, but America Ferrerra certainly looked stunning as she accepted her award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy. Unfortunately, nominees Vanessa Williams (best supporting actress), Judith Light and Selma Hayek (both for best guest actress) all went home empty handed, but those where not the only categories up for grabs. Ugly Betty earned additional nominations for casting, costuming, directing, hair styling, and title design. It looks like 'Ugly Betty' the series is just as image conscious as the fashion world it depicts. So how well did it do?

Well, 'Ugly Betty' did take home the award for Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series. I'm really, this show has scored some real talent, and though there was some tough competition, I think the award was well deserved. Richard Shepard as took home an Outstanding Director Emmy for the Pilot.

The show wasn't quite able to pull off custom and hair styling awards, but let's face it, did you expect them to? Ugly Betty was running against some stylish period pieces that would have been hard to beat. 'Tudors' took the Outstanding Costume category while 'Rome' one for Outstanding Hair Styling. If you've seen either show you know why. Best main title design went to the Showtime original 'Dexter.'

The biggest disappointment for 'Ugly Betty' was the loss of Outstanding Comedy Series to '30 Rock.' Well, I suppose 3 wins and 11 nominations are respectable numbers for season one. Let's see what season two has to offer.

I just started watching UB the week before the new season began when the Family Channel ran an all day Saturday marathon. I'm hooked. It's a funny, fast-paced show that stunned me with the depth of its heartbreaking opening episode of season 2. I just wondered how many long term fans were totally ticked off by the revelation that came at the end of that episode.
