America is Getting Expensive!

The Home of the Free is Starting to Cost Way to Much

DJ
As my family and I have traveled throughout the USA, we have found it's getting harder and harder to find a place that's affordable. The more we scout out the United States, its seems that jobs are not paying any more and the housing costs are sky rocketing.

Originally from California, I grew up in a middle class neighborhood. It seemed the world was at my finger tips. As time went on finding work, knowing my dad was able to work at one company for most of his life and retire, seemed like a plan. So, I went to work. Good company, great job, made decent money. Then inflation hit. OK, well, do what you have to do. Then the company got sold, out of a job, trying to make ends meet. Get another job! It doesn't pay as much as the last one, but your doing OK. Then all the rent goes up 100 to 200 bucks. Now your we're almost struggling. So we try to find another place cheaper. Now this seems to continue. The job you I had, now lays everyone off. Our second child is due. We have to move, cause we can't afford the rent.
Start over.

Now a new start, new city, new job. The pay is even lower than before, but the rent seems to make up for it. We are doing OK, we will be fine. lol.
Good company. Everything seems to be doing fine. Well the rent gets raised yet again. Another 100 to 200 dollars. People are paying it cause it's still cheaper than LA. You just have to commute. Gas goes up. Jobs in the area still pay the same. Both Parents now have to work full time in order to make it.

Still at about 10 bucks an hour. The rent sky rockets to almost double the amount it was. From 700 dollars a month to 1000 for the same dump we are already living in. Is it worth it? NO! So you look around for a cheaper place. Find out that there is no cheaper place. What happens? We find a roommate to come live in with our family. We now have 3 kids, struggling and trying to make ends meet. The house we are renting is now running you well over 2500 a month cause we have to pay all utilities. Plus we have to feed everyone, and put gas in the cars so we can both go to work and never see each other.

We look for other places to live, but they are all 1500 and more for a 3 bedroom. Making 10 bucks and hour you can't afford this, and take care of your family, nor can you ever seem to find time to spend with your wife and kids. Within 2 months I saw this massive jump happen in rent. People wonder why the divorce rate is so high and children are growing up in broken homes.

We started searching out of state. We found several places. Pay is lower but affordable. As we moved from place to place we noticed this same process happening everywhere. This is what California pays, we can do the same type of thing. But the pay is still the same.
Now even places that don't have sun are charging the same prices as Southern California and the weather isn't half as good. The jobs still pay the same.

Throughout all of our moves, my wife and I have tried so hard to keep our children with a close family. Being able to see their parents as the grow up, instead of the world and the streets raising them. We are finding it harder and harder to afford the prices of rentals in America. It seems that the working man is no longer able to find a rental to be able to save up and try to buy a home for his family. If you rent you keep going under. You end up never having anything to save. You have to feed your family. You have pay for all the stuff they need for school, which is also getting very expensive.

It seems, that unless you have this really high education and/or own real estate, you can't afford to live anywhere and work for a living. I see more drug dealers able to afford this, cause they make more money. lol Many people have roommates now and/or have several people living in the same house just to pay rent. I'm finding it even harder to find a job that is stable enough to retire from. So advancement in many jobs won't happen. Even then most will not pay enough to keep you able to afford rent. So what happens? You need to get 2 or more jobs. Hmmm? Is this a trend?

Not only does it seem that a once called free country is getting more expensive to live in. But, on top of this it seems to be breaking up families throughout the country because you almost have to be single and not accountable to another person in order to make it here anymore. This is encouraged by the welfare departments throughout America as well. The few times we actually had to go on it, they seemed to try to get my wife to either split up and get separated from me or get a divorce so she could collect child support. It would be an extra income for her.

Is this what America is becoming? So expensive that nobody can afford to have a family anymore? People encouraging divorce and to split up families so the kids neither have a mother or a father at home?

As we do love each other enough to want to spend time with each other, we will figure out a way to do so.

My Question. Is a free America getting so expensive live that a working man or woman will no longer have a life? Give me your feed back on this. I would love to hear of other possibilities if there is any.

Hi Apostle 1, Yeah it's going up everywhere. Since our move we had to cut out cable as well. Now with the gas prices. It's really taking a toll on things..
    Thanks for reading.

    Hello Dan,
I recently read your comments on how expensive it is to live in America...
yes, the prices of everything are going up...most is led by greed.
The American Dream is expensive, and it is a trap.
Here is a list of things I gave up and got rid of, in order to
live humbly month by month...the rest of my sources of
support come through the grace of the Lord...

I gave up cable tv, and spend more time in the Lord's presence
and on line...also I listen to the radio for news updates. I also listen to music -
either CD's or on the radio. This give more time with the Lord
and with family and friends, and cut about $120.00 per month. I don't
do video games so I don't need X box, etc...I don't need wi either.
These are just trendy expense traps.

I gave up having full auto coverage...get the cheapest you can find.

I quit my long-distance commute job last year, and now I am saving $$$ big time
    on the cost of gasoline..
I decided last December to find a job much clos
