America on the Mend

A Ten Point Approach to Recovery

Bernard Zeitler
Here is my idea for bringing America out of the ever deepening recession which is getting worse by the day,
  1. Phase out the Income Tax code over the next 8 years

  2. Replace the Income Tax Code with a flat 3% income tax and the penalty of a 6% income tax for income not reported (IE. Made under the table) if discovered.

  3. Phase out all Government Assistance programs over the next 20 years and reestablish private help organizations such as Churches and community service organizations.

  4. Repeal the Government health care Law also in favor of the community level organizations.

  5. Reset pay for all public servants (the elected officials) to reflect the average income of their districts.

  6. Remove all long term benefits for elected officials. Ie: Lifetime medical and retirement.

  7. Institute a fiscal responsibility clause for establishing Government Budgets

  8. Have all political officers sign an agreement to resign after 4 years if they vote against any of the above changes or do not act responsibly in the best interest of the American People who are paying for the National Household Budget.

  9. Require all office holders to work a minimum of 40 hours a week for 40 weeks a year.

  10. Make all politicians subject to immediate removal from office if they do not follow a contract with their constituents.

While some would think this is unrealistic, consider what you have to do to keep your job. Most employers have specific Job descriptions that are used to make sure their employees are being productive in their Jobs. If you do not do your job you can be fired.

It would seem to some that the phase out of Government Programs would be hurtful, but consider this:

  1. For every $1.00 the Government puts in the hands of the needy they spend as much as $9.00 to get it to the person.

  2. The longer a person is in a Government Program the more they depend on it and not on their own abilities.

These two facts alone should be considered. Especially when most community organizations that would be providing the service would be spending $1.00 or less to provide $9.00 of service.

Continuing on the path that the US Government is on is like trying to win the Lottery which is less likely than being hit by Lightning.
