A couple of months ago, I received a very thoughtful gift from a close friend of mine in Washington. This was the trip I had received. You see, the trip was going to take me to Hawaii, yes, one of the most amazing places around, for several whole weeks. The tickets were for American Airlines, amazingly (I didn't think they could take people there, but stupid me). Yeah, the same American Airlines who just recently canceled several days worth of flights.
But, anyway, I was happy at the time, ready to wait for my trip by making days off at my non-friendly workplace whilst the boss and the newest courtesy member were bargaining about their salary. I was so prepared, so psyched to get a nice needed vacation from the bad things in the world. After all, the only bad thing I had to encounter between me and my weeks in Hawaii was the flight itself. You see, I'm not too happy about flights, mostly because of the noise in the plane that people never ever warn you about. Sure, there's peanuts, but they're not even complimentary. I suppose that's our government at blame instead of the airlines.
Finally came the day. My weeks of relaxation could finally begin. As I walked up to the desk, smiling because of my happiness of me getting enjoyment while the receptionist had to stay here in boring Iowa while taking care of future flying passengers. "One ticket to Hawaii, non-stop, 4 weeks," I proudly said. She showed a concerning slight-smile and said, "I'm so sorry, sir, but recently all of our flights are canceled again." "......what? You...you can't be serious." She nodded, indicating she was deadly serious. I thought to myself, stupid me. I didn't bother to check the news about the flight cancellations ordered by American Airlines! I sighed as I started to turn and walk away.
But, the receptionist spoke aloud back to me, "Wait, hold on a moment, sir!" I turned back to her asking, "What?" She then further explained to me that she could arrange me a hotel room to stay in until the next date of my flight, which will be told to me very soon, I was told. I thought, hot potato. So, now I am here, organizing amongst other people in a hotel, attempting to stay ready for the next possible flight. I don't know when I'll ever get out of here, but let's just pray I can get under the sun instead of under the rain.
