American Bandogge: Dogs Known as the "Silent Peacekeepers"

Elisia Yun
The American Bandogge has quite a history, and a story to its name. Its name Bandogge actually came from the word Bandog which was its name by the Saxons in England; the word came from two words. The word "ban" came from "banda" which literally means chains. This was because the Saxons would keep the American Bandogge back then on chains during the day, and then release them at night to perform their guarding duties.

They were first bred for the purpose of combat; the American Bandogge is really a mixed breed between the American Pit Bull Terrier, and the strong Neapolitan Mastiff. Some have an English Mastiff mix instead. More information on the American Bandogge can be found on Central Pets.

American Bandogges need to live up to their names as guard dogs; thus, they are relatively large, and have an aggressive nature. The males of the species will generally grow up to around 25 - 30 inches tall, and will weigh anywhere from 100 to 140 pounds; they are a big specie. Females are slightly lighter, and shorter at around 90 pounds. They have a very muscular body type, and thus, they look muscular and strong. Generally speaking, they come in a variety of colors like black, red, blue, and tawny.

Another nickname that the American Bandogges have is the silent peacekeepers as they make incredible watchdogs, and are fierce personal body guards. They provide quality comfort and protection for their owners. Generally speaking, the American Bandogges are intelligent, and confident; however, they can also be extremely aggressive at times and cause huge damage. Because of their aggressiveness, they may be unfit for first-time dog owners; it is best if you have a bit more experience before handling them.

While they may be aggressive, the American Bandogges are sociable creatures, and need the affection of their owners. In fact, most of the time, they do not like to be left alone, and may cause quite a ruckus until you are in their company. They are friendly, and protective of their families making them a great addition to any family.

It is also important to note some problems that you may face if you choose to go with the American Bandogges. For one, they have been known to drool, and can slobber quite a lot which may cause problems for their owner. Also, they need quite a lot of exercise, and they are a big dog; thus, a small little apartment will not be enough for them. Owners will have to take them out for walks or have a backyard where they can run around, and exercise.
