The American Bulldog is a beautiful, short haired breed. He is stocky and strong. The American bulldog comes in a variety of colors including, solid white, black and white brindle, white with patches, fawn and white, fawn and white brindle, and combinations of all colors. They are in the mastiff group. This dog is a strong bonder and for the most part, generally friendly and happy. There are usually okay with strangers who present no threat also, provided they were properly socialized. The American bulldog has plenty of energy and will enjoy playing with children. As with any breed of this power and strength you may want to supervise an adult around children until you are comfortable that he or she has been around children and knows how to react to them. They are usually very good with children. They will do best with a good size yard to expend energy in. The American bulldog breed has also been known as the old country bulldog. The American bulldog has longer legs and more speed than the English version of the bulldog, thanks to breeding efforts.

This easy on the eyes breed is known to be a faithful and very loyal, loving companion. They were originally work dogs who not only guarded the land and property but also participated in the driving and catching of cattle. Males are slightly larger than the females weighing 75-125 pounds and length of 22-27 inches, while females range 20-25 inches and weigh 60-100 pounds. The American bulldog is the total pet package. He is loving and sweet but brave enough to face any threat no matter how large to protect home and loved ones. They can live indoors or outdoors, as they are a hardy breed.

Breeding of the American bulldog is widespread and quite costly both to breed and to buy. Don't forget that their are many American bulldogs in shelters that need a loving home too. If you do decide to buy from a breeder make sure it is a reputable one who does genetic testing and do your own research so you know what to find out and what to look for. A healthy American bulldog can live up to 16 years so it is a commitment. Also consider spaying or neutering as they have litters of an average eleven puppies at a time!

This is a muscular, active, athletic breed that will enjoy going for runs or jogging along side their owners. He is very alert and curious and will complete his tasks despite any distractions. If well trained he or she will almost always listen to the master's commands. Grooming is very simple with this breed and they are moderate shedders is combed regularly. Exercise should ideally be a long daily walk or equivalent.
