American Cars Vs. Japanese Cars: The Pros and Cons of Each

Sage M.
Buying a car can be a daunting process as there are so much factors to take into account: make, model, age, price and fuel efficiency. All these can be intimidating if proper research on the vehicle is not done. One wants to ensure they are getting the right value with full coverage warranty and the ability to have your vehicle serviced. However, with the economy in crisis, it is crucial that things are attainable and warranties and service contracts are honored. One also wants to ensure that the car is of the best quality. There are several makes of cars available with quality guaranteed and excellent price point so, let's look at American cars versus Japanese cars and the pros and cons of them.

The two makes I will be talking about is American made and Japanese made cars. They are both excellent car builders and provide good fuel efficiency vehicles that are cost efficient. However, there are small details and facts that can influence buyers to chose one make over the other.

Many people will chose American cars base on capital advantage, this is where true support of the countries' products comes in. The three big automakers in the US are Ford, GM and Chrysler . They produce vehicles in every model, size ranging from small cars to large trucks. In this tough economy every one is feeling the pinch and they are holding on to every dime and are ensuring they receive every dollar's worth. Most times they just want to buy a car and not worry about all the hype that goes with it.

With the automakers facing bankruptcy it would be wise to weigh the decision of choosing an American made car. Secondly, some American made cars are not built with the finesse of the Japanese vehicles. The engine tends to be large and can be quite loud, their vehicles are less reliable and safety consideration is even less. So, with this, they are known to be inferior to imported cars. In order for domestic cars to competed with that of the imported, the quality and assurance of the vehicle would have to be improved.

Japanese cars are known for their sleek look and speed capabilities, they are a popular choice amongst Americans. Their prices are usually compatibility with that of American cars of the same quality. The reason these cars are popular is due to the fact that they are presumed superior in quality and style. When in fact the Japanese manufactures which includes Honda, Toyota and Nissan have marketed the cars as just that whether or not it's the fact. In this case, presumption may have led to higher sales in the past. However, with the change in the economy those presumption have been put to rest.

Japanese cars have the incentive of having an accelerated performance system that gives their cars more power under the hood and therefore increases the speed. They tend to have a longer life span and repairing them is on parr with the American made cars.

All over the world automakers are expected to cut production to compensate for the global economic crisis. It's impossible to say which brand, whether import or domestic is a better choice as they are both struggling to keep sales up. The choice is for to the individual because their taste, budget and needs will lead to the decision which is suitable for them.

I recently had a big argument with my boyfriend about this topic. Needless to say, I bought a 98 second hand Honda Civic 5 years ago and it has 170K miles and it's still running good these days. Meanwhile, My boyfriend's 98 Jeep Cherokee has only 98K miles and he bought it brand new back then. It has so much problem. It went dead couples of times and the Mechanic could not even find what the problem is. So you do can do the Math yourself.

Recently we test drove a 2011 ford mustang 5.0(Sports car) immediately afterward we test drove a 2011 Acura ZDX (crossover SUV). When we exited the All-American sports car my fiance said, "It's nice". When we exited the Acura, I had to pry her hands loose of the steering wheel. In 1994 I bought a '94 honda accord. It has so many miles on it the odometer is stuck at 300,009 miles. It doesn't turn anymore but the car still works. I drive it every day. Finally, I would love to invest in American made cars. But, when I think of the 16 years of reliable transportation i've gotten. It would be hard to buy an american car. What's real funny is that i have friends that have 2000-2002 american made cars and they'd rather i drive when we are going out because they say their cars are acting up.So i drive but i tell them that my car is a '94.Well to each is own. I have nothing against American cars but they just don't get it. And honestly I don't think t

Its all a matter of opinion I have owned both import and domestic and honestly it all depends on the car itself. so just because a car is an import doesn't mean its better than an American car. And in more recent events it seems Import cars are getting worse and are focusing more on quantity than quality.

recently the american big 3 car company is getting back on track all thier new cars are way beyond japanese in technology and I havn't heard of any recall from the american cars yet but alot of japanese cars are getting recall its like backward the japanese focus more on quality while the american focus selling thier cars now its the other way around the japanese sold alot of cars that quality was forgotten and the american is focusing on quality and its gonna be a competition for the market now.

I have driven many American models , the Japanese just engineer their cars better , if you're not gonna put a lot of miles on a car you can get away with American , I drive a 12 year old Nissan, with 180,000 miles on it, a hundred miles a day , try that with most American models and you'll be walking , it's all in the engineering , I want to buy American to , but I get burned every time , unless you're going to buy a top of the line American model which I can't afford , it's a giant roll of the dice , and I always came up snake eyes.

i am a convert from american cars only to Japanese cars. We have bought Ford and GM only for many many years in my family for mainly the reason of supporting american made. finally, a few years back, our Ford Focus started giving us a lot of trouble, and we rented a Corolla from the month. This Toyota was superior in almost every way to our Ford Focus. Intrigued, when it came time to replace our Taurus, we decided to also check out a Totota dealer as well as a Honda dealer. Both Japanese car companies came highly regarded by friends and people in the neighborhood, so we tried them... and you know what? We ended up getting a Honda Accord. Our first Japanese car ever, and our next car became the Toyota Corolla that replaced the Focus. I thought I would never say this, but Japanese cars are just better, handle better, and feel like they make sense when I'm driving. My dad is still a diehard American car buyer, but even he has to admit, there is a big quality difference. That is

I know someone that has a GMC truck that works great and its 22 years old. I will never buy an imported car. Imports rust a lot quicker.

They both have their bests and worsts, like anything. I drive an 01 Chevy Silverado, and have 200,000+ miles on it. it drives fine. however, it has been well kept. all cars can suck if they are not taken care of very well. i like american and japanese made cars. and i think "Logic" is young. just saying the Vette and the Viper because they're on a video game. hahaha.

No i have to disagree with you people. I agree that the three American automakers have had this comming in a way because all they cared about is making a quick buck. But the fact that a Japanese car is faster and more reliable than an American made car is hard to believe. In my family we have always owned american made vehicles and never once have they had any problem bigger than maybe a dead battery or problems with the bearing from a mechanic not putting the wheel back on correcttly. All of our cars have been dead reliable even over one hundred thousand miles. And on top of that, they have also been incredibly fuel efficient and have done incredibly good performance wise, way better than any four banger Japanese car. We have used all of our vehicles on long vacations also and never had a problem where as a friend of mine had his engine blow up in his Toyota echo. I beleive any American made car can do well as long as it is well maintained and taken care of and that is where so

I buy Japanese cars because they are more reliable, more fuel efficient, are faster. Fact.

Its come to the point where the only American cars I have ANY respect for are the Corvette and Viper.
