American Hero: Lance McGraw Saves Rosie Rittenberger After Fall onto Subway Tracks

Julia Bodeeb
Rosie Rittenberry, age 18, experienced a problem with low blood sugar while awaiting the N subway train at the Eighth Avenue station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Due to this, she unexpectedly fainted and toppled over onto the subway tracks. She was unconscious down on the tracks and a train was approaching, according to the NY Post.

Lance McGraw, a stranger to Rosie, sprang into action when he saw other passengers simply staring down at the woman and not taking any steps to help her. The N train was already headed toward the platform when he jumped down to help Rosie.

He told the NY Post "I waited for someone who was bigger or who worked at the station to do something, but I saw no one was going to move."

His bravery was an act of immense courage. Some people have the ability to take action in a crisis, even when it means possible harm to their own safety. Mr. McGraw is a hero for taking the risk of his own safety to save Rosie's life.

When he lifted her up she was still unconscious. Thus she was not able to even ask for help. She was in a dire situation. Luckily Mr. McGraw was able to help her.

Rosie Rittenberry is very lucky that someone took action to help her when her life was in danger. If Mr. McGraw hadn't taken quick action this tale might be one of how a young woman lost her life on the way to her college class.

Rosie is studying at the Parsons College of fashion. This very competitive school is a NY institution, turning out the best and the brightest of the next generation of fashion mavens and fashion business moguls.

Be Careful on Subway Platform

Sometimes in the rush of awaiting a train, people move very close to the edge of the platform. This is never a good idea. One never knows if someone is going to push you from behind or you may trip and fall. Standing too close to the edge is always dangerous.

Taking the subway is always an "adventure." Sometimes, unfortunately it does turn into a misadventure. But students come from all over the world to attend college in New York City. They always will. And the buses and subways are the cheapest and easiest way for them to move quickly about the city.

A Hero

Kudos to you Lance McGraw. You saved a life on the way to your job. You gave Rosie the opportunity to keep pursuing her dreams and living her life. New York City can be a cold place; however, you showed the warmth of humanity when you bravely took action and lifted a young woman back up to safety. Her family and friends and indeed all of America are proud of you!
