American Idol 2010 Season 9. Wednesday, April 14, 2010. The night of a double elimination began with the Top 9 contestants singing a medley of Elvis Presley songs. The judges are Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi, and Simon Cowell. The host is Ryan Seacrest. Two singers will be eliminated since last week no one was- Michael Lynche was up for elimination last week. Yet, after singing for his life, he was saved by the judges. There's just one save per season. This week's mentor was the fabulous glam man, Adam Lambert.

Ryan asked Casey James and then Aaron Kelly- and then Andrew Garcia- to stand up from the safety-zone two-tier bench Left Stage (audience's right) and take Center Stage, where he joined them. After a drum roll, the person going home, as pronounced by Ryan is- Andrew Garcia. Andrew reprised the James Morrison song 'You Give Me Something'. Then came a duet by Brooke and Justin. Brooke White from American Idol season 7 and singer-songwriter Justin Gaston, from the Web series If I Can Dream, sang Elvis Presley's 'If I Can Dream'.

Ryan asked the rest of the Top 9 singers to take Center Stage with him- Tim Urban, Crystal Bowersox, Michael Lynche, Katie Stevens, Siobhan Magnus, and Lee DeWyze. After a brief discussion with each singer, Ryan walked behind the six. He slapped a hand on Crystal's shoulder and told her she's safe! He then told Siobhan that she is safe. The two girls resumed their seats in the safety zone. Then, Ryan walked Lee to the bench and asked him to take a seat beside him. He then told him he's safe! Left standing were Tim, Katie, and Michael. One of them will be going home.

But first, in a silver suit with studs- and with a glittering monitor piece in one ear, Adam Lambert performed 'Whataya Want From Me'. He was breathtaking with a new spin on his hit song. His voice was glorious, the drama intense, and the singing out of this world. And the effects with 'smoke' and laser lights were dynamic. As my partner just observed- how could any upcoming American Idol contestant sing 'Whataya Want From Me' and be able to live up to Adam's performance.

Adam told Ryan afterwards that he had brought the laser lights because he 'wanted to do something different'. "Surprise, surprise," said Adam with a grin. The glam man is the first ex American Idol contestant to have ever been asked to be mentor to the top singers.

Ryan approached Tim, Katie, and Michael. He said, "Smile." Yes, the one with whom the Force is strong is staying, American Idol's own Jedi knight Tim Urban is safe! Regardless of many weeks of criticism from the American Idol judges, except for the last three, and of being in the bottom three time after time, Tim has remained on the show! Then, it was between Michael and Katie. Ryan pronounced Michael as safe. And Katie is going home. For her swan song, she reprised 'Let It Be'.

The show ended with a look at the journeys of Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens on American Idol. Season 9 is left with its Top 7 singers!
