American Idol 2010: Who is Going Home This Week from the Top 5 on Idol? Lee DeWyze is Safe!
Lady Gaga, Harry Connick Jr, and the American Idols, Who Got Voted Off Tonight?
Instead of someone announcing Ryan this week we saw a quick clip of various people talking about Sinatra. Kara loves Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr loves Sinatra. Simon Cowell, we found out last night, loves Frank Sinatra. And I love Sinatra. Harry Connick Jr said, "Music has to be truthful and that's what this show is about."
The producers of Idol ran a bunch of clips of the judges comments and the idols performances, and then Ryan said, "Who is it going to be? America has spoken!"
Happy Cinco De-Mayo, 32Million votes, plus Lady Gaga, and Harry Connick Jr. taking the stage live.
Ryan Seacrest said, "Show some love", when he introduced the judges on American Idol: "Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell. This week's them was songs from Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. was our Idol mentor this week.

Tonight the idol constants opened the show with a medley of Frank Sinatra's songs, and each of them excelled in their own way. Aaron started it off with, "When I was 17", and I thought, that was the song he should have sung last night because of the connection. Crystal's voice sounded sweet against the all male quartet behind her. It was a nice tribute by the idols.
Ryan introduced this week's Ford Fiesta video clip. Wednesday's are the toughest nights.
A tape showed Tuesdays, and Casey said, "I used to wake up late because my band played late the night before." Cystal said, "On Tuesday's I used to change diapers and learn about the ABCs.", Lee said, "On Tuesdays, I would go to work after a work out." Aaron said, "I would go to school." The tape showed idols throughout their days, rehearsal, make up, stage clothes, and it showed them in their apartments, getting breakfast.
Next week Idols will be going to the cinema with Jaime Foxx.
Ryan asked Crystal, "What is it like being the only girl up there?" She replied that she felt like she was one of the guys and that they are like her brothers. Then Casey was asked, "How did he feel without his guitar?" Casey said he was nervous and he said, "that's how that worked out."
Last night Lee sang, "That's Life", and the judges loved it. "What did you feel when they said that?, Ryan asked him. Lee said, "I felt even better. I try not to let it get me too pumped up because it is a weekly process but it felt really good. I'm definitely my worst critic; I don't like to settle, and therefore I keep pushing it myself."
Simon said when asked what he thought when he watched the show later in the evening, "I didn't actually watch it back last night. I like to be there live."
"OK then", Ryan said, "What did you think about Lee on stage?"
Simon said, "This was the first time I thought, Lee you started to believe in yourself and I thought you got a lot of help from Harry. I felt like we saw you as a different person. If you keep doing that, we can count on you being good. We found out that Lee was safe."
Lady Gaga has been dominating the charts, and pushing the pop culture. Tonight Lady Gaga performed, "Alejandro". Her stage show started at the piano. She was wearing a fishnet body and face leotard, with a black witches had and a see through cape. She had male dancers, and pranced around while she was singing. She was moving quite a bit so I had to wonder if she was lip-syncing or whether she was actually able to hit those notes while she was dancing. The show was interesting but it was not very satisfying in terms of the singing. Maybe there was a hidden message in Alejandro but I didn't get it.
The judges came back from their break after Lady Gaga's performance. Was that a slam or did they just want to hang around for Harry's performance? Ryan told us he was going to show a clip of Harry teasing the contestants. Harry busted each of the idols and appears to be quite funny and fun to be around.
Harry Connick Jr on Stage at American Idol
Harry had his orchestra accompany him. While he sang, Jerry Welden played a few sweet short solo's on the saxophone. Harry's performance was very, very good. When he was done, he asked everyone if they were having a good time and the crowd enthusiastically replied, YES! Harry said it was an honor to be on the show and to share the show with all the judges except Ellen. It was the best performance I've seen on Idol this season.
The Idols sang a melody of Harry's songs and they were all decked out in black and white, with a few hats for attitude. It was another enjoyable performance by the contestants; they work really well together this year.
After his sang, Harry explained, "I was about 22 or 23 and I was singing at Frank Sinatra's 75th birthday party, and normally I don't get nervous, but I was being mean to my wife because I was so nervous before the show. Quincy Jones had written a song called 'More" and they did the count off and suddenly I forgot the words."
"So I said Mr. Sinatra, I'm really sorry - will you give me another chance and they did. Later I told my wife that I wanted him to know that I'm better than that. I followed him into the elevator with my wife. He was there with his," and I said, 'I'm Harry and I'm the guy that just sang and forgot all the words." With that, he turns to my wife and cradles her face, and says, "You're beautiful. He kissed her on the lips and then he left.'
Connick told the audience, "I'm going to be on Broadway, and I am really excited about it. The show, my show, not a Broadway show, but it's playing on Broadway, starts July 15th . It is a luxury to be in one place."
We knew Lee DeWyze was safe. Then Crystal was asked to take the stage near the piano. Michael Lynche was asked to start another group on stage. Next, Aaron was asked to take the stage, and he was asked to join Big Mike. Casey James was the final contestant called up. Last night, Casey sang 'Blue Skies', and the judges weren't happy with his performance. Casey was asked to stand next to Crystal.
Ryan said, "Lee is safe. Mike and Aaron are in the bottom two this week. Crystal and Casey are safe."
Aaron Kelly was voted off
Aaron Kelly has been voted off, and Mike Lynch was generous and gave him a big bear hug. Aaron is still 17 and has had a great journey. I want every kid to follow their dream. Don't ever let anyone tell you can't do something.
Ryan told Aaron, "You are an inspiration", then he said, "thank you to Harry Connick Jr, and the orchestra."
Aaron sang the same song tonight as he did last night, Sinatra's 'Fly Me to the Moon' but tonight Aaron worked the stage much better than he did last night. He did a great job and I wished he had done that last night but unfortunately, the kid is going home. I'm sure we will see him again.

Post a CommentNice recap.
Good work as always Kay.
Great work as always, Kay!
Good recap. I agree with Michele, Gaga does nothing for me either. It's all media hype like so many artists.
I don't get the attraction to Gaga! She doesn't do anything for me :) Sad to see Aaron leave, cheers :)
Nice work, Kay...you don't miss a trick!
