American Idol 2010: Who is Going Home from the Top 4 - Who Got Voted Off This Week on Idol?
Fantasia, Bon Jovi, Daughtry and We're Down to the Top 3 on Idol - Michael Lynche Going Home
This past week's them was songs from the Movies. The idols said, "This is what I've always wanted to do. This is a one shot deal. And This is what I've dreamed about."
Ryan Seacrest introduced the Top 4 American Idols - This week Jaime Foxx was a mentor. Ryan told us that 37 million votes came in last night, and it was the highest of the season.
Tonight Bon Jovi will take the stage, Fantasia (Season 3 Winner) and Daughtry, previous contestant
Ryan introduced the judges, Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DiaGuardi and Simon Cowell
Tickets for American Idol Tour go sale this weekend. For more information, go to Americanidol.com.
Fantasia performed Bittersweet
Fantasia performed 'Bittersweet', and she reminded me of a diva like Aretha Franklin or Roberta Flack. Fantasia said it is time for me to have an album out, I'm a soul artist. We learned she has been taking time off to raise her daughter but she wants to continue her career too.
Ryan invited Mike, Casey, Lee, and Crystal on stage.
Then we saw the final four Ford Group Video. Go to americanidol.com to see how you can win a Ford Fiesta decorated by one of the idols.
The producers of American Idol showed a clip of many of the previous contestants who had made the top three. Those in the top three get a 'going home' trip and a chance to drum up support for their idol votes. As I was watching the tape, I couldn't help but think that it has got to blow their minds to go home to their local neighborhoods and see mobs of people, all excited to see them. A dream come true, but probably realized by just a select few.
When asked about if they had thought how they would feel if they got to be in the Top three, Mike Lynche said, "I am looking forward to getting home, smelling the salty sea air, I'm looking forward to getting back home and see my family. Crystal said, "Of course, m my family . And I really want to play a give with my bassist, Frank May, just go to the village and play." Lee said," When I see those images, I want that to be me. I want to get a chance to say thank you for the votes and also have a conversation with my family without any cameras." Casey said, "Seeing all my families, and friends, my dogs, and hearing a bunch of people saying, "ya'll would be nice."
The families' of Idol Contestants take the stage
Tonight the family members of the contestants (two each) were sitting on the stage, and Ryan asked them "How does it feel to see the show from this view?", to which they replied 'different'.
Last night, Mike and Casey performed the duet, 'Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman'. Ellen said, "Yes" and it made the news. Ryan asked them, " Who picked the song, and we found out it was Mike's choice. Mike said, "I thought it would speak to our lives", and Casey said, "It was a good choice."
Casey is in the top three. He got to sit with his family.
Daughtry was up next
Daughtry (a past season contestant who got voted off), with his band, have sold millions around the globe. They performed, "September". I can't remember. With Daughtry - did they have the save back then?
It seems that you don't have to necessarily win Idol to be star worthy. I enjoyed Daughtry's performance and his singing took center stage even though he had a band that took up the stage, all eyes were basically on him.
While I can appreciate acts like Lady Gaga, if I wanted to go to the circus I would go see the Cirque De Solei . I enjoyed Duaghtry's singing with little fanfare, well done music, instrumentals and dynamics.
The Idol judges stayed to enjoy the act.
Ryan asked Daughtry, "How does it feel to step back into the arena?" He said, "We are fortunate we have fans, it doesn't' get old, it is exciting every night. I grew up in a small town and had a simple childhood. I kind of relate it to like how as you get older, summer isn't such as big deal. When I went home, it reminded me how it made me who I am."
Ryan asked Daughtry, "What's the difference, what can they learn?" Daughtry said, "They have gotten this far. There's not too much further to go.
Ellen said, "I'm proud of ya'll and Give us 100% of what you have got to give".Randy said, "Chris started on this stage, and this is what you aspired to be. This is the dream you wanted to have. And it feels good for us as judges to watch the dream come alive."
Daughtry told the idols to " Stay hungry and don't compromise. Stay true to what's true to you."
Last nights performances
Last night, Mike sang 'Will you be there" from Free Willy. Randy and Simon didn't like the song, and Kara didn't get goose-bumps. Kara said, "When he took something that wasn't expected, it was moving." Mike said, "When you listen to Michael Jackson, you realize that it isn't something you can do in your sleep. I was connected to it, and it made me feel uplifted."
Lee Dewyze sang, 'Kiss from A Rose", from the film Batman Forever. Ryan told him, Kara thought you got lost, Simon said it verged on Karoake. Lee replied, "As far as Karoake, no - I really did put everything into it. You probably can hear that at Karoake but it wasn't Karoake from me. I've done a lot of change ups and this one I did - I wanted to stay true."
Crystal Bowersox sang 'I'm Alright'. Kara and Ellen thought it was better than the original and Simon said, "You are back in the game."
When Ryan asked him, "What did you see in terms of her redeeming herself? Simon replied, "It was a better performance than the two weeks ago, this was the artist that we fell in love with, she's back in the game."
We found out next ,Lee is headed back to Chicago, he made the Top three. As Ryan went to commercial, the camera panned Lee's face sitting on the benches with his family and his eyes were glossy. He was bewildered and stunned, and still wrestling with the competition, as Casey was.
In Connecticut, the American Idols will be touring on July 13 at Mohegan Sun, and September 13th at the Arena at Harbor Yard, (American Live Tour 2010 - see americanidol.com for more).
Bon Jovi still has what it takes
Bon Jovi was the next guest band on Idol tonight They are a legendary, almost always sold out, 25 year-old act. Tonight Bon Jovi performed "Superman Tonight" and the vocals sounded like Bruce Springsteen. I thought the harmonies were done well, and the phrasing was also complimentary.
Ryan asked them, "How can you guys do this year after year?" They said, " We've crossed generations at this point. We're humbled, we work hard and we have fun."
Crystal made it, and she told Mike to call her as she walked to sit with her family.
Mike was the guy voted off the top 4, he isn't getting his wish to be a top 3. Ryan said, "Mike has been one of the most intense guys we've had on the show." They showed a clip of his American idol journey and his wife had his baby on stage. She was bawling at the video but Mike was calm and professional and held his composure.
He told Ryan, "I think, I wasn't even supposed to be here. Thank God the judges saved me, and I got votes and had the chance to get this far."
Mike came to Idol to make a difference for his family, and I am sure he has. The idols told us, 'Everybody loves Big Mike'. Tonight Mike did River Jordan the same Michael Jackson song that he did the night before. He should have done maybe something different, more memorable. He doesn't do Michael Jackson and he is not distinctive enough to have his own flair yet but he still a powerful voice and hopefully will grow into his own.
As he sang, he walked the stage and into the audience and behind the judges as he completed his song. We could hear him saying good bye to Randy and hugging him, as Randy said, to him, "Dude, this is just a jump off." Ellen told him, "You'll do fine." Kara told him, "Good luck."
As Ryan told the crowd goodnight and thanks for watching the camera panned Simon and Mike and it looked like they were already talking about his future.
The final clip showed Mike telling Lee Dewyze, "It's all good and I'll be back in a few days".
