American Idol 2010 Michael 'Big Mike' Lynche Saved; Jedi Tim Urban in Top 3 Guys

Wednesday, April 8, 2010. American Idol 2010 elimination night started out with the Top 9 singing a medley of Lennon-McCartney songs. The judges are Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi, and Simon Cowell. The host is Ryan Seacrest. Ryan started the elimination results by asking Siobhan Magnus to stand up and then sending her to stand alone center stage. He repeated his procedure by sending Crystal 'Mommasox' Bowersox to join Siobhan and then sending Katie Stevens their way. Then, Briaan joined the pretty trio. He immediately sent Crystal back to the safety zone with its two rows of benches off to the left (from the singer's point of view) of the stage.

Kara DioGuardi's protogée Jason Derulo, who signed with her, a record producer, sang 'watcha say'. He is a songwriter, dancer, and performer who has a multi-textured, muti-dimensional sound to his music. American Idol Season 7's David Archuleta followed by sitting at a piano and singing John Lennon's 'Imagine'. I definitely prefer him to David Cooke.

Then, Ryan ordered the lights dimmed, as usual for the elimination results, awaiting six guys. He stated that two groups of three would be formed. With great drama, he called on Lee Dewyze to stand up and then sent him to the far side of the stage. He next sent 'Big Mike' Michael Lynch to the close-side. Continuing his name selections, Ryan alternated his remaining victims. He sent Casey James farside and Aaron close-side. He sent Tim Urban farside and Andrew Garcia Close-side. He then looked at Ellen and asked her which trio comprised the bottom three. Naturally, she was diplomatic and chose one and then the other. Before the next cliffhanger, Ryan introduced Rihanna, who sang 'Rockstar III'.

Then came the shock, after his first really poor performance last night, Aaron Kelly was pronounced safe. Then, it was down to Big Mike and Andrew. And then came the greater shock- for me anyway- Ryan said the man he named next would be safe. And that man was Andrew Garcia. Big Michael was left to take the stage to sing his swan song. Instead of reprising his 'Eleanor Rigby' version from last night, he did a wondrous reprise of Maxwell's 'This Woman's Work'. When he was done, the judges decided to use their one 'save' of the season to save Big Mike. The decision was unanimous.

My predictions are for the next bottom three are Aaron Kelly, Andrew Garcia, and perhaps Katie Stevens. Crystal Bowersox is heading for a win with only Siobhan to knock her out of place. Unless our Jedi knight Tim Urban has the force so strong within him that when the finals take place, he is the winner who takes it all. As Ellen said, 'the girls are crazy about him'.
