American Idol 2010 Top 10 Guys' Night Very Good- Girls Will Have to Catch Up, Bowersox Hospitalized

Season 9: Look Out for Tim Urban, Michael Lynche, and Lee Dewyze; Bowersox Hospitalized

American Idol Tuesday March 2, 2010. The Top 10 guys performed this week before the Top 10 girls. Unlike the girls who made a dismal first showing last week, the guys did well enough so that the girls will have to step up to the plate and really show their stuff- or else it's going to be the guys' competition this year on American Idol. The girls would have performed tonight had Crystal Bowersox not been hospitalized from diabetes complications. And the guys would not have unexpectedly lost a day's rehearsal. Yet, the girls will sing tomorrow night come health or illness. Bowersox is expected to be fine and able to perform.

1. Michael Lynche, 26, St. Petersburg, FL. Michael Lynche jumpstarted the night with a solid performance of 'It's a Man's Man's World' by the Godfather of Soul' James Brown. After last week's faltering 'This Love', he is back on the fast track not only to the Top 10 but to end up in the finals. Michael's voice has a great timbre and he is a natural performer. The new daddy is going places.

2. John Park, 21, Northbrook, IL. Perhaps John Park has too much of John Mayer's 'Gravity' for the judges, who once again trounced him. The guy whose second language is English- the first being Korean- is of the right stuff. He improved greatly this week and will continue to improve. He is too much of a hunk with too good of a voice to not last at least another week.

3. Casey James, 27, Fort Worth, TX. Casey James rocked playing the electric guitar as he sang Gavin Shane DeGraw's 'I Don't Want to Be'. But, man, this vocal performance and lack of emotional depth has sunk his chances for the Number One spot. He is the new disappointment this week. Yet, the eye candy guy could make a comeback. A disappointing performance, even for 'the cougar', Kara.

4. Alex Lambert, 19, North Richland Hills, TX. Singing John Legend's 'Everybody Knows' was a good move for Alex Lambert. He needs to put more soul into his singing, yes- all of the performers this year need to do that. I so miss Adam Lambert, who pours every breath of his soul and every fiber of his voice into a song.

5. Todrick Hall, 24, Arlington, TX. What is wrong with the judges. Stop dumping on Todrick Hall. Are the judges trying to undermine his talent and confidence? The guy is talented, gracious, and savvy- and his potential is great. I hope the judges haven't destroyed his chance to be here next week. He did all right with Tina Turner classic 'What's Love Got to Do With It'. At least Randy said that Todrick's last run in the song was hot. And he was so right.

6. Jermaine Sellers, 27, Joliet, IL. 'What's Going On' with Jermaine Sellers? He did a mediocre job with the timeless song by three-octave singer Marvin Gaye. Jermaine is annoying on the ear- although less so tonight. He should have gone home long ago. The judges and America are too easy on him.

7. Andrew Garcia, 24, Moreno Valley, CA. Andrew Garcia sang 'You Give Me Something' by British singer James Morrison. He still hasn't lived up to his brilliant performance of Paula Abdul's 'Straight Up'. We're waiting Andrew. People like you. You can do it.

8. Aaron Kelly, 16, Sonestone, PA. Aaron Kelly did a good job with 'My Girl' by Motown group The Temptations. But it's tough to do a solo on a song that everyone's used to hearing sung by a group. Still, Aaron is better to listen to than last year's American Idol winner, Kris Allen, any day. And Kara liked Aaron's version.

9. Tim Urban, 20, Duncanville, TX. Tim Urban was splendid. The chick-appeal guy with that wholesome look- who as mentioned last week should be in a boy band or should act in a sitcom or somesuch- gave one of the top three performances tonight, the other two being by Michael Lynche and Lee Dewyze. In a red polo shirt and playing acoustic guitar, Tim gave an honest performance of 'Come on, Get Higher' by folk-rocker Matt Nathanson. Randy, Ellen, and Kara didn't like it. But Simon decidedly liked it.

Simon remarked that Tim Urban had made 'marked improvement'. He said that the song was young and relevant. He was impressed by Tim's work ethic. He said, "Congratulations." This was the first and last 'Congratulations' of the night from Simon. Tim Urban made the comment that he was not going to come out tonight and try to be the singer he wasn't. And that worked very well for him. He is definitely heading to big-time places. Whether it's as a singer or in acting. Tim Urban is the dark horse of the guys and may go farther on American Idol than most had expected. In the early days of the competition, it seemed as if he would soon be a goner.

10. Lee Dewyze, 23, Chicago, IL. Lee Dewyze sang sans his guitar tonight. And that was a good thing. The judges thought he was uncomfortable without it. I thought his vocals were better without it. Lee showed some star quality in his authentic performance of American rock band Hinder's 'Lips of an Angel'.

Usually stuck like glue to the top three performers I believe will assuredly end up in American Idol's Top 10- for example, last year, Adam Lambert was always in my top three list, in first position-but this year, I find my top three frequently changing. Based on tonight's performances, my new top three are dark horse Tim Urban (a shocker, no doubt), Michael Lynche (he's been on my list before), and Lee Dewyze. My bottom three are Andrew Garcia, Aaron Kelly (just because someone has to be here), and the singer ever-present in my bottom three, Jermaine Sellers.

Great job on this, I think it's going to be either Lee, casey, crystal, or Sibohana

Great recap! I wasn't blown away by anyone tonight, but I guess it's still early in the season. :)
