A paint salesman, a high school student, a glass blower, a mother, a father, and a construction worker, these 6 lives have been changed forever, but only one can take the title. This is American Idol. (What happened to the announcer announcing Seacrest - was he put back as the emcee of this show?)

Ryan Seacrest thanked the audience for their generosity and shared that 45 million dollars were raised last week during the fund drive for 'Idol Gives Back'.

Ryan told the audience, "We are celebrating a special song book tonight - the music of Shania Twain. She made country pop! Fifteen years ago she showed her talent when she released 'Woman in Me', and it won 5 Grammys. Shania has changed the face of country music and has been the biggest crossover artist ever. Her third album is the best selling album by any woman in any category.

Shania told the contestants, "I would like to see these songs come alive, and have you interpret them like you wrote them. They can be any style. I think it is going to be a great show and I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat."

When Ryan asked Shania, "These are songs you've written and performed. What are we expecting?"

Shania replied, "It is a challenge for people to sing one artist, and I didn't know what to expect, especially for the guys.

The Boot reports that Shania came out of seclusion to act as a guest judge on American Idol in January, and since then, has reported that she will have a one hour talk show called "Why Not" through OWN the Opera Whitney Network.

Born as Eileen Regina Edwards in 1965 in Canada, Shania has not released any new songs since 2004, when she released her greatest hits. She had a poor child hood and when she was a young adult, took care of her siblings after her parents were killed in a car accident. (CMT)

Ryan Seacrest introduced the judges Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell.

Last week smiling Teflon Tim Urban was voted off. This week on Wednesday's show we will see performances from Shania Twain, and Lady Antebellum who will perform "Need you Now" and the group Rascal Flatts will perform "Unstoppable."
Seacrest said, "We are now about a month away from the finale. The American Idol Tour Tickets featuring the Top 10 will go on sale on May 14th.

Here are the American Idol Contestant performances, the judges comments' and my vote for tonight's performances.

Lee Dewyze - #5701 or #5707

Lee performed the song, "You're Still the One", Shania liked it but she felt that Lee was rushing it and had him try it with piano without his guitar. When Lee performed the song on the Idol stage, he did use his guitar but he slowed it down and he did ok. Not his best performance, but he did alright. He was dressed in a sports jacket and matching pants with a white shirt and has definitely come a long way since he started just a few weeks ago. My vote: 4

Randy said, "This is one of my favorite songs of all times, and I think it was one of the best songs ever written (not just because she's here). You found your sweet spot and did a pretty good job of it." Ellen said, "You did better than a pretty good job. It always sounds like your version and you couldn't look cuter, and I saw all aboard the Shania Twain." Kara said, "The sound of your voice makes it sound so relevant. Look how far you have come. That's a love song and I don' tknow if you related to the love portion and you cracked a few times so maybe you were feeling it. Simon, I agree with what everybody said. It was the perfect song for you. It started a little slow, but it looked like you were making a face." Kara said, "He was smiling". Lee replied, "I was just singing".

Mike Lynch #5702 or #5708

Big Mike sang 'It only hurts when I'm breathing'. Shania told him he was the kind of guy that could sing the phone book and touch people but that he shouldn't take it for granted. She told him, "The only ones that make it in the end are the ones that sing and are really feeling it." Mike did an okay job with the song and brought tears to Shania's eyes. That didn't impress me much. My vote: 5

Randy said, "You are definitely that balladeer. What I love about a great singer is that you sing a song, any song, any genre. Very good." Ellen said, "I was a tiny bit nervous when I heard you chose that song, but it felt like Luther VanDross to me. I felt your emotion and I think you needed to follow Shania's advice. It was beautiful." Kara said, "One of Shania's greatest gifts other than being a talented song-writer is that she has such emotion as a performer. That melody was perfect; you changed it just enough to put your mark on it. Simon said, "I know what Ellen meant when she said Luther VanDross, but I thought the performance was a bit wet. When asked what he meant, Simon said, "The Opposite of dry. It was a little bit girly for you."

Ellen said, "What it was a song written by a girl? And Simon replied That's probably why Shania said, "You really got me. I need to fix my makeup"

Casey James - #5703 or #5709

Ryan Seacrest told him, "Last week Simon called your performances a bit lazy. Casey said, "I realized I haven't given anybody anything new. I'm going to try that this week. Tonight I am singing "Don't'. Shania said, "I think Casey is missing a bit of inner confidence." She told him, "The true confidence will come out in the way you tell the story." Casey said, "I'm excited about tonight's performance. This is a singing song and I don't think I've done that." Casey sang behind the judges and strummed his guitar and sat singing to the audience, without running any leads or jamming the way he did last week or a few previous weeks. There were tears in his eyes as he closed the song, and he did a wonderful job. He had a connection and vulnerability that I hadn't seen from Casey yet. My vote: 2

Randy said, "Wow this was the best Casey James performance ever. I hope you learned something here. This could be a great house in yoru wheel house with what you already do with the guitar. Ellen Said, "You sang that like that's really where you belong, you have that Bob Seger thing about you but that was the best performance you have done to date. Kara said "Artists do not hide, the good the bad and the ugly; they put it out there. You were vulnerable and raw, and that is what you need to do." Simon said, "Casey, last week was a much much needed wake up call. Because until now I didn't feel like you were taking part in the competition. I think this has been your best performance so far. I actually felt like you were singing the song, and I suggest you give this one (pointing to Shania) a kiss on the lips." Casey ran down and Shania jumped up and they met in the middle. She was clearly pleased with his performance.

Crystal Bowersox #5704 or #5710

Tonight Crystal was dressed in a maroon dress, with big earrings and cowboy boots. Crystal said of Shania to Ryan, "I noticed that she is constantly glowing. There is this positive aura around her, and Ryan agreed, saying, "And she has really white teeth." Yes, she glows. Crystal had met Shania during auditions and had her guitar signed by Shania. Shania reminded Crystal that"No One Needs to Know Right Now" was a cheerful song. Crystal said, "I'm singing this to my boyfriend. I'm dropping hints but maybe it's too early. She was wearing cowboy boots. Crystal reminded me of Jewel again tonight when she went into her head voice. A few notes almost sounded like a yodel. I didn't think this was Crystal's best song, but it was ok. My vote: 6

Randy said, "I liked the Nickle Creek version but it wasn't my favorite performance. But I love you and I'm glad you tried to do country. Ellen said, "I say it every week. There's nothing you can't do. Not my favorite performance but that's like saying what's your favorite color of a rainbow." Kara said, It's kind of impossible for you not to be good. It was believable, and you're still amazing." Crystal said, sometimes size doesn't matter relatively to the size of the song. Simon said, "Oh I could be in so much trouble. We don't like Crystal this week. It was limp. It was something that you would expect in a coffee shop when they hire a band that you don't want to sing. Sorry Shania but this was a forgettable song and there was a lack of conviction.

Aaron Kelly - #5705 or #5711

Shania said, "You Got A Way" suits him wonderfully. Shania felt that Aaron was concerned about hitting the notes but she told him that we already love him, now we want him to give us what he loves. Aaron sat on a stool and sang the song with conviction. He had a piano sharing the stage in the distance and a guitarist sitting on the steps of the stage. Aaron did a great job with the song and ended on a memorable last note. My vote: 3

Randy aid, "Yo, Aaron. This is your wheelhouse. You are our country artist on the show this year and you did a really good job." Ellen said, "This is going to be tough tomorrow. Everybody is doing well. I still can't get over the fact that you are 17. The amount of emotion, depth and the maturity that you showed during that song; good job, tomorrow's going to be real tough." Kara said, "I realized you felt the lyrics and we could see that. You also changed the lyrics, which was really sweet" which prompted Aaron to say he was singing the song to his mom. If I remember correctly, Aaron was adopted so it is doubly touching. Simon said, "You've struggled the last few weeks, however, tonight you were like a different artist. This is the kind of record you should make. For the first time in weeks it felt sincere and believable. I think you did really well tonight. Aaron showed a few tears tonight too, as Ryan agreed with the judges saying, "It is going to be really tough tomorrow night." Everyone must have thought this was going to be Aaron's last week but it might not be him.

Siobhan Magnus - #5706 or #5712

Siobhan said, "Tonight I'm singing 'Any man of mine.' Shania said, "The song is about attitude and it is about a woman that knows what she wants. Put some attitude in those lyrics." Shania said, "Siobhan needs to let her character come out in the lyrics." Siobhan was a favorite of mine but as she moved around the stage, and into the crowd, she started screeching. As she ended her song, she closed with her signature notes, and I forgave her for the few earlier screeches that sent Shania's eyebrows raising, When Siobhan slowed down, she was right on with the notes and she had a lol of energy to her performance. As is her signature, her last note was star quality. My vote #1

Randy said, "I loved it. I liked your boots and the beefed up look." Ellen said, "Way to pull the Shania Twain in to the station. Good way to end the show. Fantastic!" Kara said, "Guess who's bac?. Siobhan!" Simon said, "I really liked the song, the screaming was a bit much", it was almost like you were giving birth. If you held that note in isolation, you would think something else was going on." Of course the crowd booed him but he just smiled.
